The Virtual Medical Assistant will play a key role in preparing patients for their telehealth appointments by reviewing and documenting their medical history, current medications, previous surgeries, and existing conditions before connecting them with one of our physicians overseas. This position requires excellent clinical understanding, exceptional attention to detail, and accurate documentation to ensure physicians receive complete and reliable patient information.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for patients during the telehealth intake process.
- Collect and accurately document patient demographics, medical history, previous surgeries, current diagnoses, allergies, and medication lists.
- Review patient information for completeness and accuracy before the consultation.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of medical terminology, diagnoses, and common medications. For example, if a patient reports a specific diagnosis, the Virtual Medical Assistant should be familiar with the medications commonly associated with that condition.
- Enter all patient information into the medical documentation system with a high level of accuracy.
- Prepare and organize patient records before connecting patients with the physician.
- Coordinate the transition of patients to the physician for their virtual consultation.
- Maintain detailed and confidential medical documentation while complying with privacy standards.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with patients throughout the intake process.
- Stay up to date with U.S. healthcare terminology, medical practices, and documentation standards.
Requirements
- Background as Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), medical students, physicians in training, or other healthcare professionals with strong medical knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. medical terminology, diagnoses, anatomy, and common medications.
- Ability to recognize common treatments and medications associated with different medical conditions.
- Experience reviewing and documenting patient medical histories is highly preferred.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and critical thinking skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach.
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple patient intakes efficiently.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems is a plus.
- Excellent English and Spanish communication skills, both written and verbal.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients and healthcare providers.
