Job Description

Wealthsimple, Canada’s leading financial innovator, is seeking an Estate Planning Specialist to build the foundation of how they review and optimize estate plans for their HNW clients.

About the Role

This is the first role of its kind at Wealthsimple. As the Estate Planning Specialist, you will:

  • Review clients' existing wills, trust documents, and broader estate plans to assess whether their current form and structure will actually accomplish the client's goals.
  • Clearly identify and articulate, in plain language, where an estate plan is misaligned with a client's goals—and what specifically needs to change.
  • Lay out concrete next steps for clients and connect them to the right resources, such as estate lawyer referrals or documentation-drafting partners.
  • Apply a deep understanding of trusts to identify planning opportunities and gaps across complex, multi-entity estates.
  • Review existing insurance policies as part of the overall estate plan assessment.
  • Act as an internal liaison to the Advisor team, supporting complex estate planning cases and client conversations.
  • Help design and build Wealthsimple's estate review and planning process from the ground up.
  • Utilize an AI-native mindset to review documents faster, model scenarios, and enhance the team's capabilities.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in estate planning, trusts and estates law, or related wealth management advisory functions.
  • A legal background with hands-on experience reviewing or drafting wills, trusts, and related estate documents.
  • TEP designation strongly preferred.
  • Deep understanding of trusts—structures, taxation, and use cases across complex estates.
  • Solid working knowledge of insurance policies and their role in estate planning.
  • Proven experience identifying gaps in existing estate plans and translating them into clear, actionable next steps.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain complex legal and estate concepts clearly.
  • Comfort operating without an established playbook and a client-first mentality.
  • An AI-native mindset and enthusiasm for using AI tools.
  • Bilingual (English/French) capability is a significant asset.

Why Join Wealthsimple?

This role offers the opportunity to build a brand-new function from the ground up, focusing on client outcomes rather than sales targets. You will:

  • Challenge industry norms and prioritize client-first solutions.
  • Work with a fast-moving, ambitious team that values innovation.
  • Access cutting-edge fintech tools and an AI-forward work environment.
  • Experience career growth in a rapidly expanding company.
  • Be part of revolutionizing estate planning within wealth management in Canada.
