Manager, Business Enterprise Systems

As Manager, Business Enterprise Systems, you will lead the team that builds and operates Wealthsimple's business-critical systems of record and the integrations between them. You will manage a team of developers while remaining hands-on in the code and architecture yourself. Your role centers on building durable relationships with leaders across Finance, Legal, CS Ops, Security, and Data, translating their operating problems into system design, and owning delivery end-to-end. You will report to the Senior Manager, Business Enterprise Systems and have a mandate to make the business measurably better at running itself.

Responsibilities:

• Build and sustain trusted relationships with business leaders across Finance, HR, Legal, Customer Operations and Experience, Security, IT, and Data, becoming the partner they can bring problems to early rather than late.
• Translate business operating pain into technical scope by asking the second and third question, challenging requests that don’t hold up, and proposing better options when the answer is no.
• Contribute directly as a builder: write and review production code, lead the design on complex integrations, and take on ambiguous cross-system problems yourself.
• Own the technical standard for the team through design review, code review, and architectural direction.
• Manage, coach, and develop a team of developers with clear expectations, early and specific feedback, and genuine investment in their growth and trajectory.
• Own delivery of the team's commitments on initiatives spanning multiple functions, including scope, sequencing, dependencies, risk, and a status the business can trust.
• Maintain release and change discipline across business-critical systems, including deployment cadence, environment strategy, rollback paths, and audit-ready change controls.
• Provide a clear, regular view of team throughput, backlog health, and system risk so leadership never has to ask how the area is doing.

Skills and Experience:

• 6+ years of application development experience, including at least 2 years of managing a development team and leading successful delivery of custom builds.
• Strong working knowledge of at least one general-purpose language such as Java, TypeScript, Ruby, or Python, with recent hands-on experience building production systems.
• Experience planning and furthering the professional growth of individual team members, including 1-1s, performance reviews, ongoing feedback, goal-setting, and promotions.
• A track record of providing technical and process guidance to a team throughout delivery.
• Experience planning and delivering application projects such as implementations, migrations, upgrades, and configuration, organizing deadlines, resources, and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Experience owning integrations and data flows across third-party software platforms.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools (such as Terraform) for automation in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, or similar platforms).
• Experience with resource allocation and strategic roadmap development, including sequencing competing priorities across stakeholders and defending tradeoffs.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships with stakeholders at all levels and collaborate effectively across functions to achieve shared business goals.
• Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and drive process improvements.
• Experience applying AI tools to accelerate development and automate business workflows.

Nice to Have:

• Experience working with tool APIs like Jira, Slack, Okta, Workato, Google Workspace in an enterprise-level environment.
• Experience managing development teams in high-growth technology environments or fintech/regulated industries.
