About the Job
This position is needed to define and drive the vision, software architecture, and establish the AI/ML platforms across all of our business functions internally at Twilio.
Our charter and remit has expanded to cover all of the business teams company-wide, including Marketing, Sales, Customer Support & Global Operations, along with our corporate functions, including HR/People, Finance, Legal, Security & Privacy. This role requires a deep understanding of AI/ML platforms, full-stack software architecture, a strategic system design mindset, and the ability to drive innovation and efficiency across the organization.
The AI/ML Software Architect position will serve as a key technical leader in our Enterprise AI Engineering group, and s/he will provide architectural guidance globally, across our U.S., Canada, Colombia, and India teams. You will be responsible for shaping our long-term technical vision, establishing architectural standards and guardrails, and establishing our best practices for the modern AI-Assisted SDLC practice. You will drive cross-organizational initiatives, solve complex and ambiguous technical challenges, and partner with other Cross-BU Software Architects to elevate the technical standard for Twilio company-wide.
You will be responsible for guiding technical blueprints, mentoring developers, and partnering with program managers, designers, full-stack developers, and AI/ML engineers to set our team up for long-term success. The ideal candidate should have experience across the software lifecycle from architecture, design, development, deployment, and maintenance of modern, cloud applications. This leadership role requires a range of technical expertise in full-stack software architecture, LLM and Agentic Applications, and the ability to drive effective stakeholder collaboration and present work with executive leadership. Responsibilities
- Set and communicate long-term architectural vision, aligning teams and leadership across Twilio.
- Lead cross-product architecture reviews, standardize engineering practices, and drive foundational technical investments.
- Solve the most complex, ambiguous technical challenges at platform and company-wide scale.
- Mentor and guide principal and staff engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
- Partner closely with product, engineering, and executive leaders to shape strategic direction and technical investments.
- Establish and model a high-performance culture of our Software Engineering team.
- Collaborate globally with our business teams, and partner closely with GTM leadership.
- Present regularly to executive leadership our AI Engineering plans and deliverables.
- Develop AI Agents & Solutions: Lead the creation and deployment of AI-powered solutions using the latest in GenAI to drive revenue, reduce costs, and provide competitive intelligence.
- Propose and build custom AI applications tailored to specific requirements, such as RAG-based AI chatbots, agentic workflows, and AI-powered automations.
- Project Leadership: Lead cross-team efforts to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in AI/ML applications, ensuring alignment of technical outcomes with business requirements and goals.
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work across different verticals (Support, Sales, Marketing, Operations, etc.) to ideate, develop, and implement new AI/ML solutions that drive business growth.
- Cultivate a team of builders and owners that collaborate, grow, and continuously improve together.

*Required:
- 15+ years of experience designing and scaling distributed systems and platforms.
- Demonstrated ability to set technical vision and strategy at an enterprise or company-wide level.
- Expertise in system design, reliability, scalability, security, and cost optimization for large-scale architectures.
- Experience leading cross-functional initiatives and resolving highly complex, ambiguous technical problems.
- Proven record of mentoring senior engineering talent and elevating organizational standards.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication, influence, and leadership skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
