Crux is the capital platform for the clean economy, modernizing capital raising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure through advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence. Their team of 120+ experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology has raised $77 million from top investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, and others, with strategic partners including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, and OMERS Ventures.

Energy demand is growing for the first time in decades, driving demand for affordable and reliable electricity. Crux is addressing this by modernizing traditional project financing with unmatched insights, white-glove service, and AI-driven tools to power a clean, secure energy future.

The Opportunity

The Senior Principal, Debt leads a book of debt mandates from initiation to close across Crux’s debt motions: origination, advisory, and tax equity/preferred equity structures. This role spans construction, term, and back-leverage facilities, tax equity and credit bridge loans, equipment financing, and green bonds and securitization.

This position requires a passion for the clean energy transition, a builder’s mindset, and the ability to deliver results in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You thrive on solving complex problems and collaborating across teams to drive meaningful impact.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a book of debt mandates from initiation to close, including lender diligence, structuring, negotiation, documentation, and closing to institutional standards.

  • Own transaction velocity and close rates, contributing directly to the Debt team’s revenue and P&L targets.

  • Author credit memos and pricing recommendations, and present transactions to the Credit Committee with rigorous analysis of credit quality, structural terms, risks, and mitigants.

  • Lead deal teams, staffing transactions, reviewing underwriting, diligence, and financial models, and mentoring junior team members on credit and execution.

  • Execute debt transactions with lenders and institutional capital providers, partnering with Strategic Bank Capital and Strategic Institutional Capital.

  • Partner with Industry Coverage to qualify opportunities early, drive execution, and provide real-time market and financeability feedback.

  • Partner with Investments on tax equity/preferred-equity attach motion, sourcing and pricing competitive debt within agreed turnarounds.

  • Lead specific workstreams within the Head of Debt’s product agenda, such as new lender programs, financing structures, or term sheet and documentation standards.

  • Help build and standardize repeatable execution processes across debt motions, driving adoption of AI-enabled modeling and automation.

  • Partner with Product and Engineering to define and prioritize transaction tooling that increases deal throughput and execution quality.

  • Represent Crux in industry and market dialogues, including webinars, whitepapers, and conferences.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; an MBA, JD, or advanced degree is a plus.

  • 10-12+ years of total experience, including 7+ years in renewable energy project finance, infrastructure debt, or structured lending, with a track record of leading construction, term, back-leverage, or debt capital markets transactions.

  • Deep expertise in project finance debt structures for solar, wind, and storage, including hands-on negotiation of credit agreements, intercreditor arrangements, and interplay between tax equity and debt.

  • Experience preparing and presenting transactions to credit or investment committees, ideally with perspective from both the lender and sponsor/advisory sides.

  • Experience leading and mentoring deal teams, including reviewing junior team members' underwriting and modeling work.

  • Exceptional negotiation and relationship skills with developers, lenders, and investors, and the credibility to lead senior-level conversations.

  • Strong judgment and comfort operating with a high degree of autonomy in a fast-scaling environment.

  • Strong interest in leveraging technology and AI to improve debt execution.

  • FINRA SIE, Series 79 and 63 required or willingness to obtain under Crux's broker-dealer sponsorship.

Crux (operating under cruxclimate.com) is the premier, enterprise-grade sustainable finance infrastructure platform, transferable clean energy tax credit marketplace pioneer, and climate-focused ecosystem innovator engineered to operate as the definitive, high-velocity transactional, risk-mitigation, and compliance layer for developers, corporate buyers, and institutional banks participating in the multi-billion dollar clean energy economy. The company completely eliminates the severe systemic friction born from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credit ecosystem—where project developers, multi-national syndicates, and corporate treasuries face highly opaque price discovery mechanics, fragmented legal underwriting loops, prolonged contract completion times, and a lack of scalable risk transfer options—by deploying an advanced, purpose-built digital trading and transferability matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive offline brokerage desks or rudimentary spreadsheet matching systems, Crux natively unifies real-time competitive bidding, structured legal documentation workflows, automated tax equity risk profiling, and centralized data governance into a single high-availability cloud workspace. Trusted by leading global infrastructure developers and Fortune 500 tax buyers alike, the platform manages hundreds of millions of dollars in transaction pipelines, compressing capital acquisition timelines and unlocking vital project financing with production-hardened precision. Under the hood, its sophisticated technical core—backed by over $22 million in elite venture capital from top-tier institutional firms including Lowercarbon Capital, Ardent Venture Partners, and One Way Ventures—orchestrates complex multi-tenant workflow engines, advanced financial modeling structures, and secure audit trails matching strict compliance parameters. What sets Crux apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing slow, custom-negotiated transactions with standard, highly efficient, and transparent market velocity; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive big data capital mapping and instantaneous regulatory project closing, the firm remains the definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic sustainable finance and clean energy credit scaling.
