About the Role

Crux's Market Intelligence practice relies heavily on data, much of which is currently assembled manually. They are hiring a Data Engineer to build foundational datasets and pipelines for their research, publications, and client deliverables.

You will:

• Own the Market Intelligence data foundation, building and maintaining pipelines for survey responses, pricing series, volume and capacity forecasts, and buyer participation.
• Automate survey processes end-to-end, ensuring scalability without manual cleanup.
• Ensure data is accessible for reporting, dashboards, and publications without manual stitching.
• Productize recurring research to make it repeatable and scalable.
• Firm up Crux's data practices, including input validation, documentation, version control, and reproducible outputs.

What You’ll Do

• Own the Market Intelligence data foundation. Build and maintain the pipelines for survey responses, pricing series, volume and capacity forecasts, and buyer participation. This includes extraction, transformation, scheduling, and monitoring.

• Automate our survey processes end to end. Ingesting, cleaning, and joining data to create a scalable system.

• Get data where it needs to be. Support the reporting layer so findings are visible and integrated into tools and dashboards.

• Turn recurring questions into repeatable queries. Productize bespoke research for scalability.

• Firm up Crux's data practices. Validate inputs, document assumptions, implement version control, and ensure reproducible outputs.

Who You Are

• Possess 3+ years of experience building and maintaining production data pipelines in high-growth environments.

• Fluent in Python and SQL, with the ability to write, test, and debug production code and complex queries.

• Proficient in cloud data warehousing, including schema design, incremental data loading, query optimization, and cost management.

• Experience with extraction, transformation, loading, scheduling, and monitoring.

• Knowledge of data-quality practices, including input validation, automated testing, monitoring, documentation, version control, and reproducible outputs.

• Skilled at translating business or research needs into technical requirements and implementation plans.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical details to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Hands-on experience with AI-enabled tools supporting software development, data analysis, testing, documentation, or workflow automation.

• Sound technical judgment for evaluating datasets and engineering approaches against reporting and product requirements.

Bonus

• Experience with energy, finance, transaction, or market intelligence data.

• Exposure to research, forecasting, survey analysis, or data-intensive publications.

• Hands-on involvement in developing or supporting analytical or statistical models.

• Knowledge of model testing and data-validation practices, including handling missing values and outliers.

• Familiarity with data visualization, business intelligence, or reporting tools.

• Compensation:

  • Base Compensation: $130,000 - $180,000 depending on experience.
