The Digital Content Editor (Casual) creates, edits, optimizes, and publishes digital copy in a fast-paced environment. This role ensures Newsweek delivers timely, high-quality reporting that is accurate, fair, and adheres to journalistic standards.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of digital journalism and experience in a publishing role at a reputable news organization.

They will work with, edit, and publish directly in Newsweek’s CMS, with a plus for WordPress experience. The role involves using new tools and technology to create, edit, and review content as required.

This is a remote role with flexible shifts agreed upon mutually. Work is offered on an ad-hoc basis, allowing you to accept or decline offers.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with editors and reporters to create content.
• Edit copy, headlines, images, captions, graphics, and video for accuracy, clarity, and impact.
• Transform source material into original stories through additional reporting, expert commentary, and context.
• Source and prepare relevant images and video, ensuring proper verification, rights, and credits.
• Use audience analytics to inform editorial decisions and enhance content reach, engagement, and performance.
• Provide feedback and guidance to reporters to improve standards.
• Work with the social, SEO, and multimedia teams to optimize content.
• Work accurately under pressure and meet tight publishing deadlines.
• Perform any other reasonable duties necessary to meet business needs.

Qualifications:

• Significant relevant experience in digital editing and reporting roles.
• Strong news judgment across a range of subjects.
• Proven record of editing quickly in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent writing, rewriting, and copy-editing skills.
• Demonstrable knowledge of digital tools or applications, including content management systems, SEO, audience analytics, and editing assistance software.
• Demonstrable knowledge of common IT tools such as the Microsoft suite.
