About Crux

Crux is the capital platform for the clean economy. We modernize capital raising and deployment for clean energy and critical infrastructure with solutions across advisory, investments, technology, and intelligence. Our team of 120+ experts in energy, tax, finance, government, and technology has raised $77 million in capital from top investors like Andreessen Horowitz, Lowercarbon Capital, and others. These funds are joined by strategic investors including Pattern Energy, Clearway Energy, EDF Renewables, and more.

Energy demand is growing for the first time in decades, driving an urgent need for more affordable and reliable electricity. Crux is changing traditional project financing by offering unmatched insights, white-glove service, purpose-built tools, and risk underwriting to power a more prosperous, clean, and secure energy future.

We are scaling quickly and seek team members who combine deep expertise with an AI- and tech-forward mindset.

The Opportunity

The Associate, Tax/Preferred Equity will be a core member of Crux's Structuring team, reporting to leadership. This role focuses on tax equity and preferred equity structures, supporting project-level and portfolio-level transactions in renewable energy and energy transition infrastructure. What You’ll Do

  • Assist in preparing investment materials for the Investment Committee, including transaction economics, sensitivities, and risk analyses.

  • Work closely with senior members of the Structuring team to drive transactions from intake to closing.

  • Analyze sponsor financials, project contracts, and diligence materials to identify risks and value drivers.

  • Leverage technology and AI-enabled tools to increase accuracy and efficiency in modeling, diligence, and reporting.

  • Contribute to process improvements and template standardization across the Structuring team.

  • Support limited external interactions with developers, investors, and advisors under senior guidance.

  • Assist with portfolio management and reporting, including monitoring project performance against underwriting.

  • Support platform initiatives to scale tax equity workflows and develop new tech-enabled products and solutions for financing processes.

What You Bring

  • A Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field; an MBA or MS is a plus.

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in renewable energy, structured finance, infrastructure investing, investment banking, or a related field.

  • Demonstrated exposure to tax equity, project finance, or structured renewable energy transactions.

  • Strong financial modeling and structuring skills, with mastery of core valuation and return concepts.

  • Strong Excel skills, including comfort building and navigating complex financial models; VBA or Python skills are a plus.

  • Experience preparing transaction materials and conducting due diligence.

  • Familiarity with tax equity structures (partnership flip, T-flip, hybrid, preferred equity), including allocations, capital accounts, and flip mechanics.

  • Exposure to IRS requirements, safe harbor tests, or recapture provisions is a plus.

  • Experience in a transaction-focused environment with client interaction responsibility is a plus.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams in a fast-paced environment.

  • Comfortable adopting new technology platforms and integrating AI tools into daily workflows.

  • FINRA SIE, Series 79, and 63, or willingness to obtain them under Crux’s broker-dealer sponsorship.

Crux (operating under cruxclimate.com) is the premier, enterprise-grade sustainable finance infrastructure platform, transferable clean energy tax credit marketplace pioneer, and climate-focused ecosystem innovator engineered to operate as the definitive, high-velocity transactional, risk-mitigation, and compliance layer for developers, corporate buyers, and institutional banks participating in the multi-billion dollar clean energy economy. The company completely eliminates the severe systemic friction born from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) tax credit ecosystem—where project developers, multi-national syndicates, and corporate treasuries face highly opaque price discovery mechanics, fragmented legal underwriting loops, prolonged contract completion times, and a lack of scalable risk transfer options—by deploying an advanced, purpose-built digital trading and transferability matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive offline brokerage desks or rudimentary spreadsheet matching systems, Crux natively unifies real-time competitive bidding, structured legal documentation workflows, automated tax equity risk profiling, and centralized data governance into a single high-availability cloud workspace. Trusted by leading global infrastructure developers and Fortune 500 tax buyers alike, the platform manages hundreds of millions of dollars in transaction pipelines, compressing capital acquisition timelines and unlocking vital project financing with production-hardened precision. Under the hood, its sophisticated technical core—backed by over $22 million in elite venture capital from top-tier institutional firms including Lowercarbon Capital, Ardent Venture Partners, and One Way Ventures—orchestrates complex multi-tenant workflow engines, advanced financial modeling structures, and secure audit trails matching strict compliance parameters. What sets Crux apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing slow, custom-negotiated transactions with standard, highly efficient, and transparent market velocity; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive big data capital mapping and instantaneous regulatory project closing, the firm remains the definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic sustainable finance and clean energy credit scaling.
