ShiftKey is a healthcare technology company specializing in a SaaS platform and a two-sided marketplace for healthcare staffing. This role focuses on the SaaS product, which powers the day-to-day operations of healthcare facilities.

As a Staff Site Reliability Engineer, you will:

  • Set the technical direction for infrastructure and core systems, ensuring availability, stability, and scalability.
  • Work closely with engineering leadership, architects, and operations teams.
  • Serve as the go-to expert across a multi-cloud environment.
  • Raise the operational standards for the engineering organization.

Where you’ll work:

This is a fully remote position based in the United States. You should be comfortable working asynchronously and collaborating with teammates across different time zones.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automate complex infrastructure changes using code-driven provisioning and scripting to maintain scalable and resilient cloud environments.
  • Provide architectural guidance across multiple major public cloud providers, enforce architectural boundaries, and lead technical evaluations and proofs-of-concept.
  • Deploy, manage, and optimize production container orchestration clusters on managed cloud services, utilizing GitOps-style continuous delivery.
  • Own observability across all system components, including metrics, dashboards, and proactive alerting. Participate in incident response and on-call rotations.
  • Develop, document, and routinely test disaster recovery plans and business continuity procedures.
  • Track cloud spend, set up anomaly detection, automate scaling, and propose cost-reducing architectural changes.
  • Guide cross-functional teams through complex implementation challenges and mentor engineers on infrastructure best practices.
  • Develop technical solutions and operational processes to enhance engineering team effectiveness.

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of experience in DevOps, infrastructure engineering, or systems administration, including at least 3 years in a dedicated DevOps/SRE role.
  • Production experience operating managed Kubernetes on at least two major cloud providers, with a deep understanding of their architectural differences.
  • Experience managing live production infrastructure through declarative infrastructure-as-code, including remote state management and reusable, modular design.
  • Hands-on experience with GitOps delivery tooling, metrics and dashboarding stacks, and automation in scripting languages.
  • A track record of defining technical roadmaps for multi-phase initiatives and executing major platform migrations or infrastructure rollouts.
  • Experience on on-call rotations, leading incident resolution, and applying cloud cost optimization.

Perks of working for ShiftKey:

  • Inclusive and collaborative work environment.
  • Hybrid-friendly office spaces.
  • Comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage.
  • Benefits begin on your first day.
  • Generous PTO and company-paid holidays, including flexible floating holidays.
  • 100% 401(k) employer match up to 6%.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Wellness support, including access to mental health resources.

ShiftKey (operating under shiftkey.com, legally ShiftKey, LLC) is the premier, enterprise-grade healthcare workforce marketplace, credential management pioneer, and labor scheduling orchestration powerhouse engineered to act as the definitive, high-velocity shift fulfillment, compliance tracking, and post-acute talent automation layer for healthcare facilities and independent licensed professionals nationwide. The platform completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of modern medical facility operations—where chronic nursing and certified professional shortages lead to extreme burnouts, skyrocketing patient care costs, and crippling operational dependency on traditional high-fee staffing agencies—by deploying a flexible, marketplace-driven talent matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive localized job boards or rigid corporate shift scheduling software, ShiftKey natively unifies a seamless, credential-vetted matching engine, instant per-diem bidding rails, automatic compliance monitoring loops, and an intuitive schedule automation system (SAMI - Schedule Automation Marketplace Integration) into a single high-availability marketplace. Partnering strategically with industry scheduler OnShift, the production-hardened infrastructure empowers facilities to gain full real-time labor analytics and proactively fill nursing, therapy, and medical support vacancies directly. Validated as an elite market disruptor and named one of Fast Company's Most Innovative Companies, the high-growth network commands a multi-billion dollar market presence, maintaining a staggering double-unicorn valuation of more than $2 billion backed by $300 million in institutional growth financing from top-tier private equity and venture groups including Lorient Capital, Ares Management, Clearlake Capital Group, and Health Velocity Capital. Under the hood, its technology core utilizes optimized matchmaking algorithms, automated cross-state credential verification tracking, and integrated prompt payment micro-services engineered to process high concurrent shift scheduling and financial payouts without reducing data compliance or field execution velocity. What sets ShiftKey apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing fragile, high-overhead healthcare staffing models with absolute marketplace predictability, complete scheduling freedom for independent contractors, and structural clinical cost transparency; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive marketplace engineering and frontline facility patient care, the company remains a definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic healthcare infrastructure and global workforce transformation.
