The Role

ShiftKey is a healthcare technology company operating two products: a SaaS platform and a two-sided marketplace platform, both subject to strict regulatory requirements. This role focuses on the SaaS side, the product customers rely on for daily operations. Your responsibility will be ensuring its reliability, availability, and security, maintaining infrastructure stability, and establishing guardrails for other engineering teams to ship without causing disruptions.

This is a senior-level position on a small team that is still being built. You won’t have a pre-established reliability practice or extensive runbooks. Instead, you’ll make critical decisions, some of which may be ambiguous, and have significant autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to leave a lasting impact on a regulated platform that matters.

Where You’ll Work

This is a fully remote position based in the United States. You should be comfortable working asynchronously and collaborating with teammates across different time zones.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Owning reliability, availability, and incident response for the SaaS platform, from detection through postmortem.

• Maintaining and extending cloud infrastructure across AWS and Azure, managed as code.

• Running and improving our Kubernetes-based production environment.

• Writing production automation. Scripting is a daily part of this job.

• Collaborating closely with software engineering teams to ensure safe deployment practices and becoming the trusted resource for infrastructure risk.

• Mentoring teammates toward independence and shaping the growth of the reliability function.

What You’ll Need

• 5+ years of experience running production infrastructure on AWS and Azure at scale, ideally for a SaaS product.

• Experience with production Kubernetes and Terraform, including real incident handling, not just deployments.

• Hands-on experience with incident ownership, including walking through a past incident from detection to postmortem.

• Strong automation skills, particularly in Python and Bash, along with experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or CloudWatch.

• Comfort making and defending judgment calls independently, and experience mentoring other engineers.

• Experience working in a mixed-language environment and a habit of using AI tools in daily work.
