Position Overview

We are seeking a highly collaborative, systems-thinking, and code-fluent Staff Product Designer to join our global Engineering R&D division under a permanent, full-time remote model open exclusively to qualified candidates based anywhere in Colombia. At Sonatype, we are actively evolving how product experience functions inside modern developer organizations—moving entirely away from static vector mockups and isolated layout processes toward designing in real code and building AI-accelerated workflows alongside product managers and engineers. Shifting completely away from superficial visual cosmetics or marketing landing templates, you will run an active developer information architecture, permission model, and system prototyping laboratory. This position requires a product design authority with a strong technical background who models complex multi-product environments fluidly natively using UI/UX Design principles, evaluates complex engineering parameters cleanly, and drafts working coded prototypes confidently using front-end languages to bridge the space between design intent and live software deployment.

Key Responsibilities

• Core Experience Architecture Governance: Map complex information architectures, multi-product interaction paradigms, and highly technical permission models into intuitive, coherent experience patterns natively utilizing UI/UX Design concepts.
• Functional Coded Prototyping: Build real, interactive UX prototypes using Claude Code, VS Code, GitHub workflows, and front-end fundamentals (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React) that behave like authentic software applications.
• AI-Driven Handoff Engineering: Structure code repositories and prototype diffs cleanly, enabling advanced generative AI systems to accurately parse your layouts to yield engineering specs, scope requirements, and implementation criteria.
• Cross-Functional User-Flow Mapping: Co-create user and product flows in Miro in direct synchronization with Product Managers and Engineering leads, ensuring all outputs reflect technical realities and system parameters.
• Pragmatic Validation and Research: Conduct lightweight, practical user research (interviews, quick surveys, UAT, and prompt usability tests), demonstrating the tactical judgment to ship iteratively and maintain team momentum without relying on slow, academic discovery loops.
• UX Guild Collaboration: Champion high design and usability benchmarks without rigid ceremony, contributing to an open, positive, and non-defensive team culture focused on technical quality.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Significant, proven professional experience designing complex software platforms within a product-centric organization (agency-only backgrounds will not match the scope of this role).
• Mandatory Prototyping Fluency: Demonstrated capacity to construct working user experience layers using HTML, CSS, JS, and React, with high comfort working within an active terminal or code environment.
• Strong, grounded UX judgment within technical software, developer tools, or cloud-native network architectures, with a passion for simplifying intricate administrative parameters aggressively.
• AI-First Mindset: Practical experience or active experimentation utilizing generative AI tools within daily workflows to expedite structure, iteration, and spec generation.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication strengths, with a natural ability to pivot presentation styles cleanly when aligning with technical engineers or non-technical business stakeholders.
• Location Context: Position operates under remote geographic guidelines open to qualified design engineers residing permanently within Colombia.

Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)

• A hybrid technical background spanning both UX architecture and front-end engineering frameworks.
• Prior experience creating design systems or interactive interface patterns for open-source repositories, cybersecurity platforms, or container supply chain toolsets.
• Familiarity with collaborative data systems, security compliance rules, or continuous delivery pipelines.
