Senior Software Engineer - Developer Platform

The Developer Platform team at Synthesia builds internal tools and platforms that enhance the velocity, quality, and developer experience for Synthesia’s engineering teams. They oversee developer productivity (from code commit to production), developer insights and SDLC metrics, developer infrastructure (CI/CD systems), AI-assisted QA/testing, and AI-assisted development. AI adoption has reached 90%+ employees with 100% adoption in engineering over the last 8 months.

Key Responsibilities:

• Own architectural decisions for feature development, safe customer releases, and long-term support. Mentor engineers and embed technical practices through code reviews and design partnerships.
• Lead quarter-long projects, breaking down complex problems into iterative milestones. Operate with high autonomy—defining success criteria, making trade-offs, and escalating to leadership when needed.
• Partner directly with leadership to shape the roadmap and technical strategy. Push back on requirements, propose alternatives, and influence what gets built and when.
• Ensure the operational health of systems you build, using data to guide decisions on iteration, maintenance, and deprecation.
• Account for the technical direction of your area, anticipating 12+ month challenges, proposing scalable solutions, and building engineering capabilities to stay ahead.

Requirements:

• At least 7 years of experience as a software engineer, with 2-3 years at senior/staff level.
• Proven experience building and operating developer platforms, CI/CD systems, observability/metrics infrastructure, code quality automation, testing infrastructure, and/or developer tooling.
• Shipped infrastructure/tooling that measurably improved developer velocity or reduced cognitive load.
• Previous experience leading AI-powered developer tools adoption across engineering organizations.
• Experience in high-performing engineering teams (scale-ups or established) where infrastructure choices impact team velocity and product quality.
• Experience integrating third-party services (APIs, SaaS tools, external platforms) into internal systems, focusing on reliability, security, and user experience.
• Understanding that platform and infrastructure work directly enable commercial outcomes.
• Experience owning large technical areas end-to-end.
