Job Description
Key Skills Required
Master these to land this role
Want to know if you're a match for this job?
We are hiring a reporter to be our subject matter expert on electricity and the future of energy.
Why it matters: Electricity is easy to ignore — until it's gone or expensive. This reporter will reveal the invisible system powering modern life, and help readers understand why some of the biggest stories in business and technology increasingly come down to a deceptively simple question: Where will the power come from?
- We're looking for someone who sees power as the connective tissue between AI, manufacturing, climate, economics and politics.
- You will translate complex grid issues into stories people actually care about, and become the authority on the big topics and trends that are profoundly shaping our electric future.
Go deeper: In this role you will make an impact through the following responsibilities:
- Contribute to Axios Future of Energy daily newsletter and special sends focused on topics related to electricity, from solar power to batteries to grid upgrades and more.
- Become our public authority on stage and elsewhere to help illuminate these important issues.
Worthy of your time: Ideal candidates will embody an entrepreneurial spirit and passion for Axios’ mission and have the following skills:
- A commitment to building and nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment.
- A belief in Smart Brevity as the core writing style of Axios.
- Reporting experience in a fast-paced news environment.
- Demonstrated experience landing big scoops and conceptualizing big ideas.
- Strong writing skills for online and newsletters.
- Ability to command a stage and live interview.
- Experience working across teams to produce quality content.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Axios is committed to embracing artificial intelligence as a core part of how we work. All team members are expected to actively develop AI literacy and use AI tools to enhance their productivity, creativity, and efficiency. We invest in ongoing learning to ensure every employee is equipped to responsibly and effectively integrate AI into their daily workflows.

Axios
View Company ProfileAxios is a digital news company founded in 2017 by former Politico veterans (Jim VandeHei, Mike Allen, Roy Schwartz) with a simple mission: to make you smarter, faster. They realized that people's attention spans are shrinking, so they invented a writing format called 'Smart Brevity'. Instead of burying the lead in a 2,000-word article, Axios stories use bullet points, bold text, and specific sections like 'Why it matters' and 'Go deeper' to give you the news in seconds. They cover everything from politics and tech to media and local news, respecting the reader's time above all else.
