Mechanical Estimator

We are seeking a Mechanical Estimator to prepare accurate and commercially sound estimates for commercial ventilation, ductwork, and mechanical-services projects. The role involves reviewing drawings and specifications, completing quantity take-offs, assessing project scope and constructability, coordinating with Project Managers, and ensuring estimates protect project margins while meeting UK standards and client requirements.

• Prepare detailed estimates for ventilation, ductwork, and mechanical-services projects.
• Review drawings, specifications, tender documents, and project information to assess scope and requirements.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs covering labour, materials, equipment, plant, and subcontractor costs.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier/subcontractor quotations and apply appropriate rates, allowances, and commercial considerations.
• Identify scope gaps, constructability issues, access requirements, risks, and potential cost exposures.
• Work closely with Project Managers to clarify requirements, manage multiple estimating requests, and support successful project handovers.
• Maintain accurate estimating records and support margin protection, pricing improvements, compliance, and confidentiality requirements.

Requirements

• Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, HVAC, Ventilation, Plumbing qualification, or equivalent mechanical trade and estimating experience.
• Proven UK experience in mechanical estimating, particularly commercial HVAC, ventilation, ductwork, or building services projects.
• Strong knowledge of commercial ventilation and ductwork systems, including practical installation, coordination, and constructability.
• Proven ability to complete detailed quantity take-offs and accurately price labour, materials, plant, equipment, access, and subcontractor costs.
• Strong commercial awareness with experience identifying scope gaps, technical risks, pricing risks, and opportunities to protect project margins.
• Excellent numerical, organisational, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple estimates and work with several Project Managers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating, take-off, and document-review software; broader mechanical-services experience and exposure to large UK commercial projects are advantageous.
