The Manager, Global Payroll is a hands-on people leader responsible for operating and continuously improving Chainalysis's US payroll and global Employer of Record (EOR) operations.
This role oversees payroll execution, provider and vendor relationships, compliance coordination, controls, issue resolution, stakeholder communication, and process improvement across multiple platforms and operating partners. As a coach-player, you personally participate in payroll processing, review, reconciliations, controls, and complex issue resolution while providing day-to-day leadership to Payroll Specialists. Current systems and providers include ADP, Deel, Workday, Bswift, Fidelity, and other connected platforms, but the role is designed to remain adaptable as our operating model evolves.
In this role, you’ll:
- Manage assigned payroll operations across countries, employee populations, payroll platforms, and third-party providers.
- Own payroll calendars, input cutoffs, funding readiness, processing timelines, review steps, approvals, and escalation paths.
- Process or review regular payroll cycles, off-cycle payrolls, termination calculations, new-hire onboarding, employee changes, and other payroll-impacting events.
- Review payroll inputs and data feeds from HRIS, benefits, equity, retirement, timekeeping, and other connected systems, and coordinate resolution of exceptions.
- Coordinate payroll tax administration and compliance activities, including tax notices, registrations, account access, tax-rate updates, filings, payments, and reconciliations.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with payroll, EOR, tax, and other relevant providers, including service quality, issue resolution, escalations, and follow-through.
- Review payroll results, provider deliverables, funding requirements, exception items, and invoices in accordance with established Finance controls.
- Investigate payroll discrepancies, determine root causes, coordinate corrections, and escalate material employee, compliance, financial, or operational risks.
- Directly manage Payroll Specialists through goal setting, workload allocation, coaching, feedback, performance management, and career development.
- Establish clear expectations for ownership, communication, documentation, quality, timeliness, confidentiality, and escalation.
- Partner with People, Equity, Controllership, Finance, and senior stakeholders to resolve issues, communicate status, and improve payroll processes.
- Build scalable operating practices through documentation, cross-training, backup coverage, process improvement, and thoughtful use of technology.
We’re looking for candidates who have:
- Five or more years of relevant payroll experience, with meaningful US payroll ownership and demonstrated leadership or transformation experience.
- Prior people-management experience, including coaching, workload allocation, performance feedback, and employee development.
- Hands-on experience processing US payroll, preferably with ADP Workforce Now or a comparable payroll platform.
- Experience with global EOR or multi-country payroll operations, including vendor relationship management and payroll review.
- Working knowledge of US payroll tax administration, filings, payments, state registrations, tax notices, tax rates, and payroll compliance requirements.
- Experience managing payroll feeds or integrations involving systems such as Workday, benefits platforms, retirement providers, or other HR and payroll technologies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to research, resolve, and communicate complex payroll issues.
- Strong cross-functional partnership skills, with the ability to work effectively across People, Equity, Controllership, Finance, vendors, and senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ownership of process improvement, documentation, controls, and operational scaling.
- Excellent judgment, discretion, organization, written communication, and attention to detail.
- Experience in using AI to streamline processes and innovate.
Nice to have experience:
- Payroll certification, such as CPP or an international equivalent, preferred.
- Experience building cross-training, backup coverage, and succession practices within a payroll team.
- Experience working in a high-growth, global, or rapidly changing organization.
- Experience improving payroll processes, automating manual processes and integrations.
AI at Chainalysis
AI is not a feature at Chainalysis - it is a new way of working. One that turns instructions into work done, and helps us move faster than the threats we're built to counter, and we expect our employees to take ownership of the output and ensure quality. As the world's most trusted blockchain analytics platform, Chainalysis sits at a rare intersection of proprietary data, regulatory relationships and crypto expertise that makes it uniquely placed to shape and lead the next era of AI-driven intelligence - and we expect everyone here, regardless of role, to be an active part of it.
AI fluency is tied directly to how we measure performance and how we plan to win. There is no substitute for your own curiosity. We provide the tools, workflows, and space to experiment - but the expectation is that you develop these capabilities yourself, bring ideas, and collaborate across teams to reinvent the way work gets done. We are not using AI to do less. We are using it to do what was never possible before.
