Business Development Representative (BDR)
Remote (availability to travel required)
Team: Sales (Growth)
About Panoptyc
At Panoptyc, we’re on a mission to revolutionize loss prevention using visual AI and manual reviewers. We help retailers detect theft in over 25,000 markets across the United States. From Fortune 500 giants to local businesses, our impact is far-reaching. As a fully remote, rapidly growing team, we’re excited to invite top talent to join us in reshaping the future of retail security.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Business Development Representative to drive outbound growth in grocery and convenience retail. This is a high-volume, outbound-focused role. You’ll find the right people at independent grocers, regional chains, and convenience retailers, start the conversation, and book qualified meetings for the team.
You’ll own the top of the funnel:
- Outbound prospecting by phone, email, and LinkedIn
- Qualifying prospects and booking meetings for Account Executives (AEs)
- Keeping our CRM (HubSpot) clean, current, and reliable
You need to be hungry, resilient, and organized. We value grit and the ability to adjust quickly based on what you hear from the market.
What You’ll Own
Outbound Prospecting
- Run high-volume daily outreach across calls, email, and LinkedIn
- Research and build target lists of grocery stores, supermarket chains, and convenience retailers
- Reach decision-makers: store owners, operators, directors of operations, and loss prevention leaders
- Personalize outreach without sacrificing volume
- Test messaging and share what’s converting
Meeting Setting and Handoff
- Run short qualifying conversations to confirm fit, pain points, and decision-making authority
- Book meetings for AEs and hand them off with clear notes and context
- Follow up consistently to ensure booked meetings happen
CRM Hygiene
- Log every call, email, and touchpoint in HubSpot
- Keep contacts, companies, deals, and next steps accurate and up to date
- Use data to plan your day and prioritize your list
Market Feedback
- Share what you’re hearing from prospects to help sharpen our Ideal Customer Profile (ICP) and messaging
- Flag competitor mentions and objection patterns to Sales and Marketing
What “Great” Looks Like in This Role
We hire great. In this role, that means:
- You treat every “no” as a step closer to a “yes”
- You handle objections directly and calmly
- Your calendar and HubSpot are always in order
- You understand why grocery and convenience store owners care about theft prevention, not just what the script says
- You show urgency, ownership, and a competitive drive to hit your numbers
- You’re coachable
Requirements
Experience
- 2 to 4 years in Sales Development, Business Development, or outbound sales (SaaS preferred)
- A track record of hitting or beating activity and meeting targets
- Strong HubSpot experience
- Availability to travel about 3 times a year for US conferences and on-site client visits
Sales Muscle
- Comfortable making around 150 cold calls a day
- Clear, concise writing; your emails get to the point and ask for the next step
- Handles rejection professionally and stays motivated
Systematic and Data-Driven
- Organized approach to list building and follow-up
- Familiar with sales tools such as LinkedIn Sales Navigator, ZoomInfo, Apollo, or Outreach/Salesloft
- Uses data to decide who to call first
Core Competencies
- High Hunger: competitive, must-win energy
- Strong Urgency: proactive, doesn’t wait for leads
- Systematic Thinking: follows a process to maximize output
- Opinionated: seeks truth in prospect feedback and speaks up about what’s working
Nice to Have
- Experience selling into US grocery or convenience retail
- Background in retail tech, physical security, or loss prevention
- Experience at a high-growth startup
