About the Position
The Associate General Counsel will be a key member of Vetcove’s legal team and a trusted partner to teams across the business. This role is ideal for an attorney who thrives in a high-growth startup environment, brings a strong work ethic and ownership mindset to every project, enjoys tackling problems big and small, and wants to help build the legal infrastructure for a rapidly expanding technology company operating in highly regulated markets.
You will work closely with Vetcove’s legal team, business leadership, product, and operations teams on a wide range of legal matters, including commercial contracting, product counseling, regulatory analysis, privacy, data security, intellectual property, and strategic growth initiatives. You should be excited to jump into new areas, master unfamiliar legal frameworks, and help the business move quickly while thoughtfully managing risk.
About our Team
Vetcove’s legal team is deeply embedded in the business and works cross-functionally across nearly every major company initiative. We support a suite of products serving veterinary hospitals, corporate veterinary groups, manufacturers, distributors, animal health suppliers, and pet parents, which means our legal work touches SaaS, ecommerce, marketplace operations, pharmacy, veterinary practice regulations, FDA, DEA, privacy, telecommunications, consumer protection, and emerging technology.
We move quickly and expect our lawyers to be practical, proactive, and business-minded. You will not be limited to a narrow legal lane. Instead, you will be expected to understand the company’s products, customers, commercial goals, and regulatory environment, and to help craft thoughtful, scalable solutions. This is a role for someone who wants to become a true partner to business leadership and help shape the legal strategy of a company building the future of veterinary care.
What you’ll do
- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, MSAs, SOWs, order forms, NDAs, DPAs, vendor agreements, distribution agreements, partnership agreements, and other strategic commercial contracts
- Partner closely with business leadership, product, operations, and finance to support enterprise deals and strategic initiatives
- Advise on product development and product launches, including identifying legal risks and developing practical, business-oriented solutions
- Develop expertise in new and evolving legal areas relevant to Vetcove’s business, including telecommunications, consumer protection, privacy, FDA, DEA, veterinary practice laws, pharmacy laws, ecommerce, marketplace regulation, and related compliance frameworks
- Help translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for product, engineering, operations, and business teams
- Support strategic growth initiatives, including new products, new markets, new commercial models, and new regulated workflows
What you should have
- 5-8 years of legal experience, including experience at a top-tier law firm
- J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar
- Strong commercial contracting experience, particularly with SaaS, technology, enterprise customers, MSAs, SOWs, order forms, DPAs, vendor agreements, and related commercial agreements
- Excellent drafting, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills
- Exceptional attention to detail
- Very strong work ethic and desire to dive deeply into the business
- Experience advising high-growth technology companies, SaaS businesses, regulated businesses, or enterprise software companies
- Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new and evolving regulatory frameworks, and translating them into practical guidance for the business team
- A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset and a strong desire to solve problems rather than simply identify them

Vetcove
View Company ProfileVetcove is a highly disruptive, Y Combinator-backed B2B eCommerce and inventory management platform fundamentally revolutionizing how veterinary hospitals purchase their medical supplies. Founded in 2015 by brothers Alex and Mitchell Kates—who grew up working in their father's equine practice—and headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company operates as the ultimate unified procurement engine for the veterinary industry. Under the hood, Vetcove seamlessly aggregates the catalogs of every major veterinary supplier and manufacturer into a single, centralized dashboard. Their primary target audience spans over 23,000 veterinary clinics, massive animal hospitals, zoos, and non-profits who desperately need to bypass the massive friction of juggling dozens of vendor websites, phone calls, and backorder lists. What sets Vetcove apart in the fiercely competitive HealthTech landscape is its uncompromising commitment to the community; offering its core price-comparison and checkout software completely free to clinics, empowering them to slash ordering time in half, secure the absolute best pricing, and take back control of their practice's profitability.
