Over 25,000 hospitals across all 50 states rely on Vetcove daily, supporting tens of thousands of veterinarians who care for tens of millions of pets each year.
Vetcove is modernizing the $50 billion+ animal health industry by providing veterinary organizations with tools to focus more on patient care. Backed by Y Combinator and top venture investors in Silicon Valley, New York, and Miami, Vetcove is a fast-growing, mission-driven company seeking talented individuals to shape the future of veterinary care.
About the Role
Vetcove is seeking an exceptional Chief of Staff to design, build, and lead the internal operations of their growing company. Reporting directly to the CEO, this role involves being a trusted confidant to the leadership team with meaningful authority to shape daily operations.
The mandate is to ensure the organization runs exceptionally well. You’ll build systems, processes, and coordination that help teams move faster, resolve issues before they reach the founders, and turn leadership priorities into well-executed internal initiatives. This role creates more capacity for leadership to focus on strategy, major decisions, customer relationships, and the next stage of Vetcove’s growth.
This is a senior, hands-on operating role with a seat at the leadership table and close involvement in shaping company operations. You’ll lead a small internal operations team while personally driving projects and solving problems across the company. As you build context and trust, you’ll represent the CEO and other leaders in meetings, lead projects on their behalf, and make decisions within delegated authority.
We’re looking for an exceptional self-starter who creates momentum without waiting for instructions. You’ll need judgment to act independently, resourcefulness to work through ambiguity, and follow-through to deliver without close supervision. Success means becoming the person leadership trusts to run internal operations and the person teams count on for clarity, obstacle removal, and execution.
What You’ll Do
Build How Vetcove Operates: Design and improve internal systems, policies, and processes that support a growing, fully remote company. Create clear ownership, effective coordination, and practical structure to help teams excel.
Own Internal Operations: Take responsibility for day-to-day operational decisions and execution. Proactively identify needs, resolve issues independently, and keep work moving without waiting for leadership direction.
Act on Leadership’s Behalf: Step in for the CEO and other leaders to represent their priorities, lead meetings, advance projects, and make decisions within delegated authority. Build context to exercise sound judgment and recognize when a decision needs leadership input.
Drive Cross-Functional Execution: Lead internal initiatives from idea to completion. Align the right people, resolve dependencies, and ensure decisions translate into action.
Be a Trusted Partner to Leadership: Participate in leadership team meetings, contribute operational insights, and take ownership of complex matters with discretion. Turn incomplete direction into a plan and keep leadership informed without constant involvement.
Lead and Develop the Operations Team: Set priorities and raise the standard of execution across administration, people operations, and company events. Build the team’s capabilities while staying hands-on in critical work.
Strengthen the Employee Experience: Oversee programs, gatherings, and internal practices that help employees feel connected, supported, and effective.
Elevate Internal Communication: Drive preparation of all-hands presentations, leadership updates, and company communications. Turn leadership direction into clear, polished materials.
Solve Problems at Their Source: Identify recurring friction, gaps in ownership, and emerging operational risks. Build lasting solutions that reduce escalation needs and improve company smoothness as it grows.
You Should Have
- A Bachelor’s Degree
- A record of owning complex operations or cross-functional initiatives and delivering excellent results with limited oversight.
- Exceptional judgment, discretion, and integrity, with the ability to earn the confidence of senior leaders and handle sensitive matters thoughtfully.
- A highly proactive, self-directed approach. Anticipate needs, determine next steps, and follow through without repeated prompting or detailed instructions.
- The ability to turn ambiguity into clear priorities, practical processes, and decisive action, seeking input where it matters and moving independently where it doesn’t.
- The presence and confidence to represent senior leadership, lead consequential conversations, and make sound decisions within your authority.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, paired with the judgment to focus on what matters most.
- The credibility and interpersonal skills to work across functions, resolve disagreements, and hold people accountable with clarity and respect.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create compelling presentations and concise recommendations.
- The ability to lead a small team while remaining a resourceful, hands-on operator who takes personal ownership of results.
- Experience in a demanding, growing organization where you improved business operations and earned increasing responsibility.
Vetcove values demonstrated capability, judgment, and ownership over specific titles, career paths, or years of experience.

Vetcove
View Company ProfileVetcove is a highly disruptive, Y Combinator-backed B2B eCommerce and inventory management platform fundamentally revolutionizing how veterinary hospitals purchase their medical supplies. Founded in 2015 by brothers Alex and Mitchell Kates—who grew up working in their father's equine practice—and headquartered in Miami, Florida, the company operates as the ultimate unified procurement engine for the veterinary industry. Under the hood, Vetcove seamlessly aggregates the catalogs of every major veterinary supplier and manufacturer into a single, centralized dashboard. Their primary target audience spans over 23,000 veterinary clinics, massive animal hospitals, zoos, and non-profits who desperately need to bypass the massive friction of juggling dozens of vendor websites, phone calls, and backorder lists. What sets Vetcove apart in the fiercely competitive HealthTech landscape is its uncompromising commitment to the community; offering its core price-comparison and checkout software completely free to clinics, empowering them to slash ordering time in half, secure the absolute best pricing, and take back control of their practice's profitability.
