At MCG, we lead the healthcare community to deliver patient-focused care. We have a mission-driven team of talented physicians and technical experts developing our evidence-based content and innovating our products to accelerate improvements in healthcare. If you are driven to enhance the US healthcare system, MCG is eager to have you join our team. We cultivate a work environment that nurtures personal and professional growth, and this is a thrilling time to become a part of our organization. With dynamic roles that offer meaningful impact, you'll be able to fully realize your potential. Plus, you'll enjoy world-class benefits and the security, stability, and resources of our parent company, Hearst, with over 100 years of experience.

The Data Science teams at MCG are producing innovated and industry-changing solutions based on our exceptional medical content and deep clinical experience. We are hiring a senior engineer to build and operate the internal APIs that will expose these exciting new solutions within MCG’s technology ecosystem.

As a Senior Software Development Engineer, you will focus on all the delivery aspects, not just the API surface. You will be part of the team that determines and monitors the load capacity, implements the deep observability required for continuous improvement, and supports internal teams as they integrate. New solutions are emerging and evolving rapidly, and you’ll be on the team that owns the experiment-to-production path.

AI-assisted & human-owned development is the standard on this team. We expect engineers to be excellent at discerning when and how to use AI tools. Team cohesion is critical for the pace of development, so you’ll be joining a high respect high and high personal accountability team.

You will:

  • Implement and maintain network delivery solutions for MCG Data Science SDKs (deployment, security, auth, observability, processes, etc).
  • Work closely with teammates to understand integration contracts, implement to spec, and surface early blockers
  • Write and maintain documentation and runbooks for the systems you own.
  • Participate in on-call rotation for the internal platform services; respond to incidents, own post-incident reviews, and drive reliability improvements from what is learned.
  • Provide expert code reviews and technical mentorship within the team.
  • Design solutions on modern infrastructure (cloud solutions, k8s, LLMs) with expert level understanding of what and why, not just being able to call infrastructure or run pipelines.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of professional software development experience, with meaningful time spent building backend services or service integrations
  • Deep experience with back-end languages such as Python and Golang.
  • You’re comfortable paired programming and design solutions considering the team ability to maintain it.
  • Strong written communication; you document what you build and your documentation holds up over time
  • Experience building integrations in a distributed systems environment; you understand async patterns, idempotency, and failure handling in practice

MCG Health (operating under mcg.com), part of the Hearst Health network, is a pioneer and market leader in evidence-based clinical guidelines, healthcare analytics, and care management software. Originally established in 1988 under the actuarial firm Milliman (formerly Milliman Care Guidelines) before its acquisition by Hearst in 2012, MCG provides objective, scientifically vetted clinical decision support used by over 2,000 hospitals, government agencies, and a majority of major U.S. health plans. The platform continuously analyzes thousands of medical research studies annually to aggregate evidence across the full continuum of care, including ambulatory, inpatient, general recovery, behavioral health, and home care. MCG's suite of software products—such as Indicia for Providers and Cite for Payers—leverages advanced artificial intelligence (including cari™ and NoteGuardAI solutions) to streamline prior authorizations, optimize hospital length-of-stay, reduce readmissions, and minimize payer-provider friction. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, MCG Health plays an indispensable role in standardizing healthcare quality, utilization management, and value-based care delivery across the United States.
