About Us

Epic Kids is the leading digital reading platform built for kids 12 and under, trusted by millions of children, educators, and families around the world. Our mission is to inspire a lifelong love of reading by providing unlimited access to thousands of high-quality books, videos, and educational content through a safe and engaging experience. We combine technology, storytelling, and learning innovation to help every child become a confident reader.

At Epic, you'll join a collaborative and fast-paced global team passionate about building meaningful products that make a real impact on children's education and literacy.

About the Role

The Senior iOS Engineer owns Epic's native iOS app -- the primary way our readers open a book on iPhone and iPad. You work independently on a large, established Swift and Objective-C codebase, own the reading experience end-to-end, and partner with our Android, backend, and web teams.

This is a role based in India, working closely with Epic's US engineering team and the wider global team.

What You'll Do

  • Own and evolve Epic's native iOS app across iPhone and iPad -- a large, established Swift and Objective-C codebase
  • Own the reading experience -- the in-house book renderer and audio-text sync (narration aligned to word-level highlighting)
  • Own offline reading, in-app purchases, and the App Store release pipeline
  • Drive the app's performance, stability, and quality
  • Partner with Epic's Android engineer and the backend and web teams on shared features
  • Grow into a cross-platform mobile engineer over time, ramping into Android/Kotlin to contribute across both apps

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years building and shipping native iOS apps to the App Store
  • Strong Swift and UIKit, and comfort working across a mixed Swift and Objective-C codebase
  • Proven depth in custom UI/text rendering and/or real-time media-audio synchronization (not only stock controls)
  • Solid across the iOS app lifecycle -- concurrency and thread-safety, local persistence, in-app purchase, and owning a release pipeline (CI, code signing, TestFlight/App Store)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with SwiftUI and Swift Concurrency (async/await)
  • Familiarity with AVCadence for audio-text sync
  • Experience with encrypted media playback
  • Accessibility on a consumer or kids' product -- VoiceOver, Dynamic Type, WCAG
  • Interest in cross-platform mobile, and some Android / Kotlin awareness

Why Join Epic?

At Epic, you'll have the opportunity to build products that inspire millions of kids to discover the joy of reading. You'll work alongside talented teammates across the globe, solve meaningful technical challenges, and help shape the future of digital learning for children.

Epic! (operating under getepic.com, legally Epic! Creations, Inc.) is the premier, enterprise-grade digital reading platform, children's educational media pioneer, and interactive EdTech orchestration powerhouse engineered to act as the definitive, high-visibility digital library, student performance tracking, and personalized literacy layer for millions of children, parents, and elementary school teachers globally. Co-founded in 2013 by digital media and gaming veterans Suren Markosian and Kevin Donahue, the company completely eliminates the severe systemic friction of modern childhood literacy developmentโ€”where families struggle with high physical book costs, and schools face fragmented reading tracking resources alongside a sharp decline in student reading engagementโ€”by deploying an immersive, high-velocity reading engagement matrix. Moving far beyond traditional, passive e-book reader utilities or static school PDF binders, Epic! natively unifies a curated catalog of over 40,000 high-quality books, audiobooks, learning videos, and read-to-me titles from 250+ top publishers (including HarperCollins, Macmillan, and National Geographic Kids) alongside gamified badge achievements, personalized quizzes, and a dedicated classroom insights dashboard. Operating at massive scale with accessibility spanning over 90% of elementary schools across the United States, the platform supports over 75 million young readers. Highlighting its category-defining momentum, Epic! was acquired by global digital education powerhouse Byju's for $500 million to anchor its international consumer expansion strategy. Under the hood, its technology framework utilizes advanced behavioral content recommendation loops, lightweight real-time reading progress telemetry tracking, interactive word-highlighting audio sync tools, and copper-bottomed COPPA compliance architectures built to manage high-volume concurrent streaming traffic with absolute safety and minimal latency. What sets Epic! apart is its uncompromising dedication to replacing passive screen time with absolute educational predictability, rich visual and textual storytelling, and structural classroom integration; by bridging the gap between performance-intensive relational media storage and immediate, child-first learning curiosity, the enterprise remains a definitive cornerstone of modern algorithmic EdTech and global literacy transformation.
