The role is for a Senior Interior Designer to work closely with the Director on Sydney-based workplace and education projects. This is a hands-on design and documentation role for a technically strong designer who can work independently and turn client briefs, concepts, sketches, and mark-ups into high-quality, accurate, construction-ready documentation.

You’ll support the Director throughout the project lifecycle, with a focus on design development, documentation, and project delivery. The Director will retain responsibility for client relationships, presentations, and overall design direction.

The ideal candidate is organised, reliable, and able to manage their workload, meet deadlines, and take ownership of assigned work with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work across workplace and education commercial interior projects.
  • Develop designs from concept through to detailed design, tender, and construction documentation.
  • Translate project briefs, sketches, mark-ups, and design direction into accurate and coordinated drawings.
  • Develop and document space plans, test fits, sketch plans, site plans, demolition plans, proposed/general arrangement plans, reflected ceiling plans, furniture and finishes plans, elevations, joinery drawings and details, ceiling details, floor threshold details, partition details, and stair drawings and details, in accordance with the company’s drafting, CAD, and documentation standards.
  • Prepare and maintain finishes, furniture, door, and equipment schedules.
  • Develop 3D models and visualisations using SketchUp where required.
  • Assist with design development, material selections and presentation documentation in InDesign.
  • Coordinate architectural and interior design information with other specialist consultants.
  • Incorporate consultant information, mark-ups and design changes into documentation.
  • Review documentation for accuracy, coordination, and completeness, identifying potential issues and raising them with the Director.
  • Manage assigned project tasks and deliverables in accordance with agreed deadlines.
  • Work closely with the Director through regular reviews, mark-ups, and online meetings.
  • As the business grows, oversee and review the work of other team members.

Requirements:

  • 8-10+ years of professional experience in commercial interior design.
  • Strong experience across workplace and education projects.
  • Portfolio demonstrating high-quality commercial interior projects.
  • Strong technical knowledge of interior documentation, detailing, and construction.
  • Ability to independently develop complete documentation packages from sketches, mark-ups, briefs, or verbal direction.
  • Strong spatial planning and technical design skills.
  • Good understanding of materials, finishes, furniture, and construction detailing.
  • Working knowledge of Australian building and accessibility requirements, including NCC/BCA and DDA.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD/AutoCAD LT and SketchUp or equivalent 3D modelling software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Experience preparing tender and construction documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage deadlines independently.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Proactive approach to problem-solving and coordination.
  • Reliable high-speed internet and a workstation capable of handling large CAD and 3D files.

Work Arrangement & Expectations:

This is a remote role that will be set up as an independent contractor engagement. Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Sydney working hours: 9:00am–5:30pm AEST, with a minimum of 6 hours’ daily overlap.
  • Regular communication through Microsoft Teams and Zoom, including daily check-ins and weekly deliverables.
  • All project information and documentation must be kept confidential.
