Senior Infrastructure Engineer (AI Development Focus) at Primer

What will you be doing?

You will own Primer's internal developer platform end-to-end, including:

• CI/CD pipelines, deployment workflows (canary, blue/green), self-service tooling, and ephemeral environments that every engineer relies on to ship code.

• Build the human-AI development loop. Define the tooling and automation that enable engineers to work effectively alongside coding agents, ensuring fast and safe workflows.

• Treat developer productivity as a measurable system. Instrument it, identify bottlenecks, and implement changes to improve delivery.

• Take full operational ownership. Join the Core Infrastructure on-call rotation and ensure the reliability of what you build.

• Set the technical direction for how Primer’s engineers build and ship, mentoring less experienced engineers along the way.

• Improve how engineers write code, not just ship it. Collaborate with product teams to enhance tools, frameworks, and internal APIs for better ergonomics and reduced friction.

• Build Primer’s paved roads. Reduce boilerplate code, establish standards for service development, and own the golden-path tooling that boosts efficiency across teams.

• Work openly in a fully distributed team, making decisions and trade-offs transparent.

What we're looking for

• Strong cloud infrastructure experience, with a preference for AWS (GCP experience also considered).

• Hands-on Kubernetes experience.

• Infrastructure-as-code as a working tool, not just a buzzword. Preference for Terraform (but Pulumi, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc., are acceptable).

• CI/CD as a core competency, with experience owning build, test, deploy workflows, and preview environments.

• Experience measuring and improving delivery using frameworks like DORA or SPACE.

• Comfortable owning production systems and participating in on-call rotations.

• A genuine software engineering background, with experience building and maintaining applications or products—not just infrastructure tooling.

• Ability to reason about what makes code pleasant to work with, enabling you to build AI and developer tooling that engineers actually want to use.

• An async-first communicator who thrives in a remote, distributed team.

Nice to have:

• Hands-on experience building with AI or agent tooling, or working directly with LLM-based development workflows.

• Familiarity with MCP servers and agent integration patterns.

• Experience in payments, fintech, or other regulated industries.
