About the Role

Hungryroot is looking for a Senior Engineer to join their growing Engineering team. This role involves driving the technical design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and quality of important features and integrations on the backend team. Responsibilities include REST API endpoints, database schema changes, translating business logic, performance tuning, and security hardening.

The ideal candidate can independently execute projects, proactively raise issues, and unblock themselves. Mentoring and guiding less experienced developers is required. They should be able to constructively debate issues, persuade others with hard evidence, and stay objective while being open to changing their mind. This role will serve as the backbone of the entire API engineering team.

Responsibilities

• Own critical overarching aspects of engineering infrastructure, including system design and maintenance processes.
• Drive important technical discussions and help the team arrive at the best possible solution given constraints.
• Work closely with engineering leads on planning and execution of large, complex projects.
• Contribute directly to important feature development, maintenance, and quality.
• Raise the bar on code quality and enforce engineering discipline through code review feedback, testing, technical presentations, and opportunistic refactoring.
• Participate in the interview process for other senior, mid, or junior engineering candidates and contribute to hiring decisions.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of commercial software development experience.
• 3+ years of experience using Python and its ecosystem as the primary day-to-day environment.
• 3+ years of designing and extending RESTful APIs.
• 3+ years of experience working with a web framework such as Django (preferred), Flask, or Rails.
• 2+ years of relational SQL experience.
• 2+ years of experience troubleshooting production issues.

Nice to Have

• Full-stack engineering experience.
• Proficient in leveraging modern AI-powered developer tooling.
• Experience with AWS and its various core services.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC Tools).
• Proficiency working with Git.
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field.
