**What We're Looking For**
Berkshire Hathaway Homestate Companies, Workers Compensation Division, is seeking a Senior Business Development Manager to lead business development efforts and brand strategy across Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Western Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. This role involves evaluating production patterns in new and renewal business to identify opportunities for refinements, ensuring profitable growth. You will collaborate with Business Development Managers, Underwriting management, and corporate resources to develop industry-specific, class code, or segment-based opportunities. Your responsibilities include monitoring agency performance, preventing production barriers, and improving customer experience by enhancing ease of doing business with BHHC.
Frequent travel within the specified territory is required.
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship for employment visa status.
**Responsibilities**
- Creates and executes territory plans demonstrating a clear understanding of territory, aligning with regional resources to identify opportunity and profit potential.
- Positions BHHC as the market of choice by proactively searching for new agency appointments, prospect meetings, and book transfers, while driving new agency partner production.
- Monitors agency growth and profitability, identifying performance gaps and developing profit improvement and growth plans.
- Manages agency partnerships to achieve minimum premium standards and growth goals, processing appointments and terminations timely.
- Conducts in-person agency visits, prospect meetings, claims reviews, and stewardship meetings, co-traveling strategically with Underwriting, Client Services, and Loss Control teams.
- Influences productive partnerships by educating agents on BHHC’s value proposition, target market opportunities, territory goals, and service model.
- Acts as a resource for peers and brokers, mentoring other Business Development Managers and adapting to new tools/processes.
- Participates in weekly underwriting meetings, contributing to discussions on large accounts and pushing Underwriting to hit targets by securing quotes for agency partners.
- Gathers, analyzes, and evaluates competitor information and territory opportunities, developing action plans based on competitor intelligence.
- Collaborates with Marketing, Underwriting, and IT to enhance ease of doing business through templates, systems, and product offerings.
- Develops and maintains accurate Producer Profiles, Business Plans, Agency Files, and Bravo contacts, documenting new business not taken, active submissions, calls, and monthly reports.
- Maintains President’s Circle information for assigned agencies to leverage new business and renewals.
- Serves on internal committees, participates in charity events, and attends insurance conferences to expand expertise in workers compensation and insurance.
- Assists with special assignments and projects as needed.
**Qualifications**
- Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university required.
- Experience: Minimum of five (5) years in workers compensation insurance (Mid-Level) or seven (7) years for Senior-Level, preferably in Marketing or Underwriting.
- Technical Skills:
- Able to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Write reports, correspondence, and manuals. Present information to management and public groups.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and able to quickly master proprietary and vended software applications.
