About the Role

This role will be responsible for creating technical and scientific content for internal and external audiences (such as investors, government officials, and the public) about KoBold’s projects, science, and technology. You will collaborate closely with KoBold’s leaders, exploration teams, and technology teams to understand deeply and communicate compelling stories effectively in written, video, and graphical formats.

We are seeking an analytically minded producer with a track-record of overseeing the production of scientific or technical content for a variety of audiences. Our ideal candidate brings a scientific or technical background, a strong track record in content creation, and hands-on video editing and animation skills. However, we encourage individuals with strong analytical and technical skills, alongside storytelling and writing skills, to apply even if you do not have video production experience.

Note: Please submit a portfolio with your application that includes examples of past graphic, video, and any other scientific storytelling work relevant to this role. Only applicants who submit a portfolio will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Act as an in-house scientific producer, managing the creation of content including video, written works, and graphics to visually tell stories to a variety of audiences
  • Work closely with KoBold Metals’ leaders to identify high-priority story opportunities across KoBold
  • Interview scientists and geologists across KoBold Metals to understand their areas of expertise, and produce coherent narrative arcs about the innovative work KoBold is undertaking
  • Oversee video production tasks from pre-production through to post-production, including sourcing and managing vendors worldwide
  • Initiate and/or create (with support from our graphic design team) technical figures and graphics
  • Write, edit, and provide feedback on written content, including reports, case studies, social media, and presentation scripts to tell scientific stories for investors and other external and internal audiences
  • Work with and advise internal staff on their scientific presentations, ensuring they are informative and accessible
  • Travel to KoBold events and work sites to direct field shoots, scientific interactions, and other activities to generate content about our field programs and operations

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand technical information and turn it into compelling stories for non-expert audiences. A strong communicator who enjoys working with colleagues across the company.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills across a variety of formats, including social media
  • A proficient executor with a keen eye for design details and editorial judgment to decide what to cut, emphasize, or reframe
  • At least 5 years of experience in a scientific or technical multimedia creation role for a public-facing brand or organization, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • (Preferred) Proficiency in industry-standard graphic design, video editing, and/or video production tools such as Premiere Pro, After Effects, Descript, Illustrator, and Figma.
  • (Preferred) Experience in sourcing, hiring, and managing vendors for video, including filming, voiceover, and video editing/animation.
  • Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about all aspects of mineral exploration, particularly in the geology domain. Enjoys constantly learning such that you are driving insights through using our tools in exploration and willing to work directly with geologists in the field.
  • Excitement about joining a fast-growing early-stage company, comfort with a dynamic work environment, and eagerness to take on an evolving range of responsibilities.
  • Keen not just to execute projects, but to figure out how to best achieve the business objectives of the company.
  • A valid passport and willingness to travel to observe work at Mingomba (in Zambia) or at an exploration site around the world. Travel for this role typically does not exceed 5 trips per year.

KoBold Metals (operating via koboldmetals.com) is a pioneering artificial intelligence and mineral exploration powerhouse engineered to accelerate the discovery of critical battery metals necessary for the global transition to clean energy. Founded in 2018 and headquartered in Berkeley, California, the enterprise fundamentally disrupts traditional mining by deploying proprietary AI models, predictive data systems, and novel hardware sensors to locate deep, concealed deposits of copper, lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Moving far beyond the manual, capital-intensive exploration techniques of yesteryear, KoBold natively unifies world-class data scientists, software engineers, and renowned geoscientists to guide decisions across its owned-and-operated exploration programs. The company has rapidly scaled to become both the largest independent mineral exploration company and the leading exploration technology developer globally, managing a massive portfolio of over 60 active projects across four continents—including the world-class Mingomba copper deposit in Zambia. Backed by a historic consortium of top-tier institutional investors and technology venture capitalists including Andreessen Horowitz, Breakthrough Energy Ventures, T. Rowe Price, and BHP, KoBold operates with over $1 billion in funding. Under the hood, its technology core utilizes machine learning architectures, statistical subsurface modeling, and a massive centralized database of the Earth's crust to reduce exploration uncertainty and drastically lower the capital required for new discoveries. Capturing massive market acceleration, KoBold Metals remains a definitive cornerstone of the electric vehicle and renewable energy supply chain, transforming mineral exploration from a high-risk guessing game into a predictable, repeatable science.
