Product Owner (Life Insurance Modernization)

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Product Owner to support the technical sustainability of current life insurance systems while advancing modernization solutions that eliminate reliance on legacy mainframe administration platforms. In this role, you will connect business objectives with technical execution through clear requirements, value-based backlog management, and cross-functional collaboration.

You will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering, and Architecture teams to translate business needs into actionable tasks, manage technical debt, and ensure smooth policy data conversions while maintaining business continuity.

Responsibilities

• Vision & Roadmap Alignment

  • Partner with the Product Manager to define and communicate a product vision and roadmap aligned to business goals, technical sustainability, and modernization outcomes.

• Backlog Management & Prioritization

  • Independently prioritize and manage the product backlog—including features, user stories, and acceptance criteria—balancing operational needs, technical debt, dependencies, constraints, and business value.
  • Lead backlog refinement and requirements discussions, guide sprint planning, and actively participate in Agile ceremonies.

• System Modernization & Data Conversion

  • Support life insurance conversion and modernization requirements, dependencies, and acceptance criteria for transitions from legacy mainframes to current administration systems.
  • Coordinate validation, testing, cutover, and operational readiness with strict attention to policy data, downstream impacts, and service continuity.

• Technical Requirements & Solutioning

  • Translate business needs into actionable technical requirements.
  • Partner with stakeholders, engineering, and architecture teams to improve current-system supportability, address technology risks, and align modernization scope and feasibility.
  • Collaborate with UX/UI and engineering teams on usable, technically viable solutions, advocating for CI/CD principles to enhance product quality and delivery speed.

• Data-Driven Outcomes & Continuous Improvement

  • Use data and success metrics to evaluate outcomes, communicate progress, identify gaps, escalate risks, and adjust priorities.
  • Build strong cross-functional partnerships, mentor team members, share domain knowledge, and contribute to continuous process improvement.

Qualifications (Must Have)

• 5+ years of experience as a Product Owner in a Scaled Agile (SAFe) or similar development environment.
• Demonstrated strong understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), technical requirements, technical constraints, and UX/UI considerations.
• Proven track record of translating business strategy into actionable technical tasks and managing complex, competing priorities.
• Solid Agile and Scrum mastery, including backlog prioritization, user story drafting, acceptance criteria definition, and sprint planning.
• Strong cross-functional collaboration, stakeholder negotiation, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
• Advanced / Fluent English (written and spoken) with high communication skills for direct interactions with U.S. stakeholders.
• Based in LATAM.

Nice to Have

• Life Insurance Conversion Experience: Moving policies from legacy mainframe platforms to current administration systems (including requirements, data mapping, reconciliation, testing, cutover, and post-conversion stabilization).
• Financial services background and deep knowledge of life insurance administration platforms.
• Hands-on experience working in Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) environments using tools such as Azure DevOps or Jira.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Relevant Product Owner certification (e.g., PSPO, CSPO, SAFe POPM).
