About the role
We are looking for a Lead MarTech Engineer to own and advance the systems that enable our marketing organization.
This is a hands-on technical leadership role combining engineering, architecture, product thinking, and stakeholder management. You will work directly with marketing and company leadership to understand business needs, establish priorities, and translate them into reliable technical solutions.
Your goal will be to help marketing move faster without requiring separate engineering resources for every technical initiative. You will maintain and extend our existing marketing platforms, automate inefficient workflows, and build the integrations, services, and internal tools needed to remove bottlenecks.
What you’ll do
- Develop and communicate a roadmap for marketing technology in partnership with marketing and leadership.
- Work directly with business stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into technical requirements and implementation plans.
- Own the architecture and operation of marketing-related APIs, cloud services, data pipelines, integrations, and internal tools.
- Design data flows between operational systems, data warehouses, internal services, and third-party marketing platforms.
- Build and maintain integrations using APIs, webhooks, file storage, SFTP, streaming, and batch-processing patterns.
- Define and evolve marketing data models that support segmentation, personalization, analytics, attribution, and activation.
- Maintain and extend marketing automation, customer data, analytics, attribution, tag-management, and catalog-synchronization platforms.
- Build tools and services that expose useful platform capabilities and data to internal teams.
- Coordinate with engineering, infrastructure, security, and data teams when work depends on systems outside your ownership.
- Communicate priorities, decisions, tradeoffs, risks, and progress clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
What you'll bring
- 6+ years in software/data engineering, including 2+ years owning systems at a Staff/Lead level
- Strong Python and SQL; production-grade code, not just scripts
- Hands-on experience with a cloud data warehouse (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Redshift) and a transformation/orchestration tool (dbt, Airflow, or equivalent)
- Strong understanding of data modeling and how data moves between source systems, warehouses, services, and external platforms.
- Experience integrating with a CDP or marketing automation platform (Segment, HubSpot, Klaviyo, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, or similar) at the API/data-model level
- Understanding of streaming and batch-processing architectures and their tradeoffs.
- Experience building and operating major cloud platform (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and experience owning production services — deployment, monitoring, incident response
- Experience owning production systems, including deployment, monitoring, reliability, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to turn ambiguous business needs into clearly scoped and prioritized technical work.
- Experience building integrations via REST APIs, webhooks, and file-based transfers (SFTP/S3)
- A proactive approach to identifying gaps, removing bottlenecks, and driving work through completion.
- Ability to collaborate directly with business stakeholders, technical teams, and senior leadership without requiring an additional translation layer.
Preferred
- Experience in some of the following areas is helpful, but not required:
- Marketing automation or customer-engagement platforms
- Customer data platforms
- Familiarity with client-side and server-side event tracking
- Marketing analytics and attribution
- Product catalogs and commerce data
- Customer identity, audiences, segmentation, and data activation
- Privacy and consent management
- Building internal tools for nontechnical users
What success looks like
You will establish a clear roadmap for marketing technology, improve the reliability and maintainability of existing systems, and reduce marketing’s dependency on other engineering teams. You will automate high-effort workflows, create more reliable data flows, and deliver reusable services and tools that help marketing execute more quickly.
Over time, you will become a trusted technical partner to marketing, engineering, data, infrastructure, and leadership—helping the organization get more value from its existing technology while identifying where new capabilities are needed.
This is a senior individual-contributor role with broad technical ownership and hands-on implementation responsibility. Direct people management is not required.
