ABOUT THE ROLE

TechTorch is looking for an experienced IT Operations Manager to build, own, and continuously improve our internal technology environment and, in some cases, for our clients.

Reporting directly to the COO, you will serve as the company's senior internal IT leader, responsible for ensuring our technology ecosystem is secure, scalable, reliable, and easy for employees to use. You'll own everything from employee support and endpoint management to identity and access administration, security hardening, compliance execution, and the overall health of our internal systems.

This is a highly hands-on role. You'll be the first point of contact for employee technology issues while also serving as a trusted technical advisor to leadership. One moment you may be troubleshooting a Microsoft 365 issue or preparing a new employee's laptop; the next, you'll be evaluating our privileged access model, improving Conditional Access policies, planning our Zero Trust roadmap, or leading the implementation of a new internal platform.

We're looking for someone who enjoys building as much as maintaining and can advise best practices. You'll identify recurring issues, eliminate manual work through automation and AI, strengthen our security posture, document scalable processes, and continuously improve the systems that power our business.

You'll also partner closely with the COO and business leaders on strategic IT partnerships. This includes assessing new platforms, improving existing systems, coordinating technical activities with vendors, and providing operational support for technology vendors while business owners maintain the strategic vendor relationship.

Success in this role isn't measured by the number of support tickets you close, it's measured by how effectively TechTorch operates because of the technology environment you've built, secured, and continuously improved.

WHAT YOU’LL OWN

IT Strategy & Infrastructure

  • Serve as TechTorch's senior internal IT leader, responsible for the overall health, reliability, and scalability of our internal technology environment.
  • Own the administration, configuration, and continuous improvement of our core technology platforms, including Microsoft 365, Entra ID (Azure AD), Intune, Rippling, and other business-critical systems.
  • Develop and maintain technology standards, system documentation, and operational procedures that enable the business to scale efficiently.
  • Evaluate our existing technology stack and proactively advise and recommend improvements that increase security, reliability, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead the implementation of new technology platforms, upgrades, and internal IT initiatives from planning through execution.

Identity, Access & Security

  • Own identity and access management across the organization, including user provisioning, deprovisioning, role-based access control, licensing, and permissions.
  • Design, implement, and continuously improve Conditional Access policies, least-privilege access models, and privileged identity management (PIM) practices.
  • Partner with leadership to mature TechTorch's security posture by advancing identity security, endpoint protection, and Zero Trust principles appropriate for a remote-first organization of employees and contractors.
  • Administer endpoint management and security controls across Windows, macOS, and mobile devices using Intune, MDM platforms, and endpoint protection solutions.
  • Monitor the health and security of the technology environment, proactively identifying risks and implementing practical improvements before they become business issues.

Employee Technology Experience

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee technology support, delivering responsive Tier 1 and Tier 2 support across our global workforce.
  • Partner with HR to ensure a seamless technology experience throughout the employee lifecycle, including account provisioning, device readiness, access management, and offboarding.
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking, SaaS applications, and identity-related issues while focusing on long-term solutions rather than temporary fixes.
  • Create documentation, self-service resources, and standardized processes that improve employee experience and reduce recurring support requests.

Business Systems & Operational Excellence

  • Partner with the COO and business leaders to administer and optimize internal technology solutions that improve how the business operates.
  • Lead the operational execution of technology initiatives, coordinating with vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure successful deployment and usage of software.
  • Support business teams with system administration, integrations, user management, and process improvements across internal platforms.
  • Provide operational support for technology vendors by coordinating technical activities, implementations, and issue resolution while business owners maintain the strategic vendor relationship.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation and AI to eliminate manual work, improve internal workflows, and increase operational efficiency across the organization.

Compliance & Governance

  • Own the operational execution of TechTorch's IT compliance program, supporting SOC-2 and ISO-27001 and future security initiatives through control implementation, documentation, evidence collection, and ongoing system administration.
  • Maintain technology policies, asset inventories, access reviews, and system documentation required to support audits and internal governance.
  • Coordinate security awareness and training initiatives, periodic access reviews, and other operational activities that strengthen our compliance posture.
  • Support incident response activities, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement of our operational and security practices.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in IT operations, systems administration, or internal IT leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience administering Microsoft 365, including Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune, and Entra ID (Azure AD).
  • Strong experience designing and managing identity and access management (IAM), including role-based access control, Conditional Access, and least-privilege administration.
  • Experience implementing or administering Privileged Identity Management (PIM) and modern identity security best practices.
  • Experience supporting or implementing Zero Trust principles within a cloud-first environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing Windows, macOS, and mobile devices through enterprise MDM platforms such as Intune, Rippling, Jamf, Kandji, or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting security and compliance initiatives, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST, or similar frameworks.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across Microsoft 365, SaaS platforms, networking, endpoint management, identity, and user support.
  • Experience leading technology implementations and managing projects from planning through execution.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize competing initiatives, and thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience serving as the primary or senior IT resource within a startup, consulting firm, or other high-growth organization.
  • Experience with Rippling, Vanta, SentinelOne, Microsoft Defender, or similar modern cloud-first technology platforms.
  • Experience leveraging AI tools and automation to improve IT operations, streamline workflows, and eliminate repetitive work.
  • Experience administering business systems and SaaS integrations.
  • Familiarity with PowerShell, Microsoft Power Automate, Zapier, Make, or other automation platforms.
  • Experience supporting globally distributed teams across multiple countries and time zones.
  • Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, Azure Administrator Associate, Microsoft Identity and Access Administrator, CompTIA Security+, CISSP, or equivalent.

What Makes You Successful

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Takes ownership and follows through.
  • Solves root causes instead of temporary problems.
  • Balances security with usability and business needs.
  • Enjoys building scalable systems and well-documented processes.
  • Translates senior-level business conversations and requirements into working technology solutions.
  • Is naturally curious and continuously learning.
  • Uses AI and automation as force multipliers to improve both personal productivity and organizational efficiency.
  • Thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys partnering with leaders across the business to solve complex operational challenges.

What We Offer

  • High ownership and trust. We hire smart people and give them room to operate. You'll have autonomy.
  • A profitable, fast-growing company. Bootstrapped, financially disciplined, and scaling quickly – with real momentum behind the business.
  • Remote-first flexibility. Work where you are most productive.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits. Base compensation between $145,000–$165,000, depending on experience, with a competitive, performance-driven bonus and a comprehensive benefits package including health coverage and additional perks.
