Engineering Manager (SRE) - Blockchain Infrastructure

About the Role: Parity is seeking an Engineering Manager (SRE) to lead a team of experienced Site Reliability Engineers (SRE) and elevate the standards of reliability within blockchain infrastructure. The role involves setting engineering direction, fostering a culture of reliability, and managing teams responsible for the infrastructure supporting the Polkadot platform and related ecosystems.

The team operates across test and production networks, deployment pipelines, observability, and systems relied upon by developers, node operators, and end-user applications. Environments range from fast-moving test networks with daily automated updates to 24/7 production networks with on-call coverage. This is a small team with broad scope.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of experienced SRE engineers and define the vision for reliability in blockchain infrastructure.
• Establish and enforce SLOs (Service Level Objectives) and error budgets to ensure system reliability.
• Conduct blameless postmortems to improve systems and processes.
• Promote automation to reduce repetitive tasks and enhance efficiency.
• Develop and mentor engineers, fostering growth and career advancement.
• Navigate the unique challenges of blockchain infrastructure, which differs from traditional cloud operations.

Requirements:

• Systems thinking: Deep understanding of distributed systems and large-scale infrastructure. Credibility with senior engineers is essential.
• Reliability expertise: Experience in or leadership of an SRE team. Knowledge of error budgets, SLOs, and effective postmortem practices.
• Automation focus: Commitment to building automated systems and reducing manual work.
• People development: Track record of mentoring engineers and helping them advance in their careers.
• Adaptability: Comfortable with unconventional territory like blockchain infrastructure, though prior Web3 experience is not mandatory.
