Intro to Position
NPR is seeking a strategic and mission-driven Director of Individual Giving to join our dynamic development team. Reporting to the Senior Director of Major Gifts, you will play a pivotal role in cultivating high-level philanthropic partnerships by managing a portfolio of major donor prospects capable of 6- and 7-figure gifts. In this role, you will execute a comprehensive moves management strategy—from initial qualification to long-term stewardship—while collaborating across the organization to drive revenue goals and champion a culture of philanthropy that supports NPR’s commitment to public media.
Responsibilities
- Portfolio Management & Donor Strategy: Manage and grow a portfolio of 100–150 major gift prospects, including members of the NPR Foundation Board of Trustees. Secure high 6- to 7-figure gifts by developing and executing comprehensive, annual solicitation plans for each prospect, ensuring cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. Aim to generate $5M+ in new revenue each fiscal year.
- Moves Management: Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward donors through the appropriate prospect cycle. Use moves management tools and fundraising best practices to track activity, pipeline health, and progress toward annual revenue goals.
- Collaboration & Cross-Functional Partnership: Partner with local Member stations on collaborative donor prospects and work with the Planned Giving team to facilitate blended gift opportunities. Communicate frequently with the Senior Director of Major Gifts, sharing activity, progress, and strategy updates.
- Donor Materials & Reporting: Independently create engaging donor proposals, impact reports, and briefing materials. Partner with the Donor Operations, Donor Communications, and Donor Relations teams to ensure high-quality stewardship and engagement materials.
- Database Management: Maintain and update donor information promptly in the donor database (Salesforce) to ensure real-time accuracy and data integrity.
- Professional Standards: Exemplify fundraising best practices and the highest level of ethics in all activities, ensuring that all donor interactions align with NPR’s mission and values.
- Adaptability & Collaboration: Partner across NPR’s development organization to contribute to a strong culture of philanthropy, participating in projects and initiatives as needed.
- Discovery and Prospect Identification: Conduct 20-40 discovery qualifications annually to identify new potential donors and expand the portfolio.
