About the Role
Aduro Advisors is seeking Assistant Controllers to support top-tier clients in the Venture Capital & Private Equity space. This dynamic role involves managing client relationships, executing on technical excellence, and contributing to team growth.
The Assistant Controller is a multifaceted leader responsible for acting as both preparer and reviewer, ensuring high-quality service and technical work. This role requires strong project management skills, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to balance client needs with team requirements.
Key Responsibilities
As an Assistant Controller, you will:
- Serve as the primary point-of-contact for multiple clients, including:
- Managing workflow and coordinating work among Aduro team members (Senior Controller, Controller, Accounting Managers, Staff Accountants, and Management Company Team members)
- Setting up and running recurring client check-in calls, covering current status, open items, and upcoming operational needs
- Responding to ad-hoc client requests within 24 hours, ensuring alignment with Aduro processes and industry best practices
- Reconcile banking transactions, prepare journal entries, and maintain general ledgers in Xero in accordance with US GAAP, overseeing junior team members
- Drive the month-end close process, raising follow-up questions to Senior Controllers, Controllers, or clients as needed
- Reconcile and maintain investment information for all fund investments
- Prepare and/or review quarterly financial statements, including partners’ capital allocations
- Utilize FundPanel to send investor correspondence (capital contributions, distributions, and quarterly reporting)
- Update FundPanel for fund activity and investments
- Coordinate preparation of audit materials and manage year-end financial statement audits and tax work
- Apply a risk-based approach to delegate tasks to junior team members and review their work
- Proactively seek opportunities to assist Senior Controllers/Controllers and gain exposure to complex or high-risk tasks
- Take ownership of personal growth by identifying training needs and utilizing Aduro’s resources
- Provide coaching and guidance to junior team members and assist in identifying team training needs
Requirements
You may be successful in this role if you:
- Have approximately 3-5 years of experience in the alternative asset industry, with Venture Capital and/or Private Equity experience preferred
- Possess external auditor experience, CPA certification, or an MBA as a plus
- Have an in-depth understanding of US GAAP and partnership accounting, including complex allocation waterfalls
- Have experience in a client-facing role leading engagements across multiple clients
- Are resourceful, driven, and possess strong problem-solving skills
- Value providing excellent customer service and understand the importance of attention to detail
- Have a passion for mentoring and coaching team members
- Are prepared to assist the team when needed
- Are proficient in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems such as Xero or QuickBooks
