Newsela is an instructional content platform that solves a huge problem in classrooms: every student reads at a different level. Newsela takes real-world content—like news articles from The Washington Post, National Geographic, or historical texts—and rewrites them at 5 different reading levels. This means a teacher can discuss a single topic (e.g., 'Space Exploration') with the entire class, but each student gets a version of the text that matches their specific reading ability. The struggling reader gets a simple version, and the advanced student gets a complex one, but they all learn the same core information.
