About the team

The Finance team is where numbers become decisions. We partner closely with business leaders across the company to make sure Wealthsimple is allocating resources wisely, hitting its targets, and building toward long-term sustainability. Within Finance, the Tax team is responsible for managing Wealthsimple's tax profiles across a growing number of legal entities and products — balancing tax law compliance while enabling business strategy. We're a small, high-trust team embedded in the business, and we hold ourselves to a high bar for both rigour and clarity.

About the role

As Wealthsimple grows, so does the scope and complexity of its tax structure and obligations. You'll be the key preparer for income tax and sales tax filings, provisions, and reconciliations, reporting to the Director, Tax and working closely with the other Tax Managers on the team. You'll bring strong technical grounding in Canadian tax compliance and accounting, a sharp eye for accuracy, high level of rigour in documentation, while looking for smart ways to automate and modernize workflows.

In this role you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Take on the key preparer role for month-end and quarter-end tax accounting processes, including the preparation of provision calculations, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns (GST/HST/QST and other applicable indirect taxes) and related monthly reconciliations across Wealthsimple's legal entities
  • Prepare income tax returns and related account reconciliations on a monthly basis
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation and working papers for all tax filings and reconciliations
  • Identify discrepancies, resolve reconciling items, and flag process gaps to the Tax Team
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, and other cross-functional teams to ensure tax compliance data flows accurately and on time
  • Contribute to special projects, including process improvements, automation and AI-enabled initiatives, technical research, tax modelling, audit response and advisory support

Skills you'll bring:

  • 3-5+ years of Canadian income tax and/or sales tax compliance experience, ideally within a financial institution, fintech, or public accounting environment
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian corporate income tax return preparation (T2)
  • Solid understanding of tax accounting concepts (provisions) under IFRS
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort working with large data sets and multiple reconciliations in an efficient and scalable manner
  • Experience in using technology and AI tools to improve accuracy, documentation, and efficiency in recurring compliance work
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines across income tax and sales tax cycles
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to summarize technical tax matters for non-tax audiences

Nice to have:

  • CPA designation (or in progress) or working toward a similar professional qualification
  • Experience in a high-growth or scaling fintech or financial services environment
  • Experience in sales tax, SR&ED, transfer pricing, or cross-border tax matters
  • Experience working with tax technology tools or process automation

Who you are:

  • Detail-oriented and reliable — you own the monthly cycle end-to-end and don't let things slip
  • Comfortable with repetitive, recurring compliance work, but always looking for ways to make it faster, cleaner, or more accurate
  • A strong teammate — proactive, communicative, and easy to coordinate with on shared deadlines
  • Curious about how AI and automation can change the way compliance work gets done, and eager to help build that into the team's day-to-day
  • Someone who takes ownership of their deliverables and follows through on open items without needing to be chased
