Strategic Finance Consultant (AI/SaaS Startups) - Remote

We're seeking a strategic, forward-thinking Strategic Finance Consultant with 7–10 years of experience in venture-backed startups, specializing in the AI and AI-adjacent sectors. This role will focus on guiding fast-growing AI startups through financial strategy, capital planning, and operational excellence.

Where You’ll Drive Impact:

• Oversee monthly close, budgeting, forecasting, capital planning, and treasury management as the de-facto senior finance team member.

• Advise founders and management teams on financial strategy, including capital planning, growth, management fee strategy, and execution.

• Lead finance discussions in Board meetings, including KPI dashboards and investor updates.

• Support fundraising and M&A, including round structure, cap table scenarios, investor communications, term sheets, and diligence activities.

• Manage revenue cycle, cash flow planning, vendor spend, controls, growth potential, and audit readiness.

• Identify opportunities to integrate Burkland’s bookkeeping, tax, and HR services for clients.

About You:

• Direct, substantial experience in venture-backed startups within AI, AI-adjacent, SaaS, machine learning, big data, or digital infrastructure sectors.

• Expertise in compute cost management, cloud infrastructure, training/inference expenses, and hybrid pricing models.

• Proven experience with SaaS financial models and metrics.

• Deep knowledge of AI tools, LLMs, and financial technology platforms (e.g., QBO, Carta, Rippling, Ramp) for financial analysis, reporting, and automation.

• History of owning financial performance from a C-suite perspective, not just accounting or modeling.

• Experience with major capital events, including equity/SAFE fundraising, debt facilities, M&A, and exits.

• Board-level experience and strong stakeholder management skills with founders, investors, and executives.

• 7–10 years in finance/operations, ideally in progressively responsible roles.

• Familiarity with MBA or CPA preferred but not required.
