Position Overview

We are seeking a highly sophisticated, systems-minded Sr. Engineering Manager, Shopping Ads to join our core global Ads Engineering division in a full-time remote capacity within the United States. In this specialized leadership seat, you will function as a hands-on Technical Lead Manager (TLM), claiming absolute individual accountability for leading a high-performing group of software and machine learning engineers. You will drive end-to-end technical execution across Reddit’s foundational commerce formats, specifically focusing on **Dynamic Product Ads (DPA) and Product Listing Ads (PLA)** systems. Moving entirely beyond passive ticket distribution, the ideal candidate possesses exceptional machine learning systems judgment and engineering depth, remaining deeply embedded in real-time architecture definitions, large-scale system design reviews, and the hands-on troubleshooting of low-latency production bottlenecks.

Key Responsibilities

• ML Engineering Team Leadership: Guide, mentor, and scale an elite engineering pod composed of backend software and machine learning engineers focused on ads targeting, candidate retrieval, ranking, and user engagement models.
• Shopping Ads Formats Execution: Drive cross-functional system engineering and implementation initiatives for high-intent Dynamic Product Ads and Product Listing Ads platforms.
• Hands-On Architecture Curation: Act as an individual contributor to engineering design, participating deeply in core architecture reviews, writing system definitions, and resolving code implementation deadlocks.
• Retrieval & Ranking Optimization: Architect and optimize backend infrastructure models across ads targeting nodes, deep candidate retrieval filters, and real-time model feature inputs.
• System Telemetry & Scalability Triage: Eliminate performance debt and minimize infrastructure latency across high-concurrency ads stacks, maximizing system reliability, experimentation quality, and operational scale.
• Cross-Functional Roadmap Alignment: Partner closely with internal ML Platform, Ads Serving, Data Science, Product Management, Measurement, and Infrastructure teams to map out product roadmaps and maximize advertiser business value.
• Developer Velocity Platformization: Design and execute code platformization and software simplification frameworks, decreasing day-to-day operational complexity while boosting distributed developer speed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 8+ years of verified professional history running advanced software engineering, machine learning application architecture, backend systems development, or infrastructure-scale data management.
• Demonstrated experience operating successfully as a Technical Lead Manager (TLM), simultaneously driving complex code architectures while managing, coaching, and developing engineering talent.
• Strong, authoritative technical depth running ads ranking systems, content recommendation engines, deep user **engagement modeling, candidate retrieval algorithms, or ML-driven optimization systems**.
• Proven experience building and operating highly distributed cloud networks, vector search structures, or production machine learning systems under massive transaction loads.
