Orcrist is building a next-generation data intelligence platform using cutting-edge technologies. We handle petabyte-scale data with sub-second queries. Our product is a Kubernetes-based platform delivered as B2B SaaS or as a self-hosted on-prem solution, including air-gapped deployments. We enable customers across defense, law enforcement, and enterprise to turn mission-critical data into actionable intelligence.

Role

We are looking for a hands-on Software Development Engineer to build data-intensive software capabilities for challenging applications in intelligence, public safety, and national security. You will work closely with our Intelligence team on data pipelines, data structuring, visual data analytics, and experimental software projects.

You will work with large and complex datasets, develop tooling and infrastructure around visual data, and help turn new ideas into reliable, scalable systems. This role is ideal for a strong software engineer who enjoys working with data, learning quickly, and solving practical problems in a highly dynamic environment.

What you’ll do

  • Build and improve data pipelines and data processing workflows.
  • Structure, process, and analyze large-scale visual datasets.
  • Develop software for visual data analytics and related intelligence applications.
  • Build scrapers and data collection tooling where required.
  • Support classification, detection, and other computer vision workflows from a software and data perspective.
  • Take ownership of short-lived experimental projects and rapidly prototype new ideas.
  • Support key technical initiatives across the Lancelot team.
  • Collaborate closely with other engineers and technical leadership.
  • Travel every 2–4 weeks for architecture reviews and team events.

About you

  • A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, with an excellent grade record from a leading university (Master’s preferred).
  • Strong programming skills across one or more programming languages and the ability to code independently, including without AI assistance when required.
  • Experience using modern AI-assisted development environments and agentic coding tools such as Claude Code.
  • Strong interest in data, data analytics, and data pipelines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and an exceptional ability to learn quickly.
  • Self-directed, hands-on, and comfortable working without close day-to-day management.
  • Strong team player with clear and honest communication.
  • Excellent German language skills.
  • Eligible to work full-time in Germany and willing to undergo the required security clearance and background checks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large-scale data pipelines or data-intensive software systems.
  • Experience with georeferencing, satellite imagery, remote sensing, OpenStreetMap, or photogrammetry.
  • Experience with photogrammetry or computer vision / ML.
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience working with sensors such as drones, antennas, or cameras.
  • Background in computer vision research, e.g., Fraunhofer IGD or similar.
  • Knowledge of Russian or Ukrainian language.
  • Interest or experience in military, intelligence, defense, or public safety domains.
