An overview of this role
As a Senior Team Member Relations Partner, you'll guide managers through complex team member relations matters across GitLab's global organization, including performance management, investigations, and policy compliance. You'll lead sensitive investigations, coach leaders through confidential workplace matters, and partner with Legal and People Business Partners on solutions that support a positive team member experience while reducing organizational risk. This is a senior-level individual contributor role that reports to the Team Member Relations Director. You'll work with a high degree of autonomy on sensitive and higher-risk matters, help shape GitLab's team member relations practices, and serve as a subject matter resource for leaders and partners across regions.
What You’ll Do
- Lead sensitive investigations from intake through resolution, including interviewing team members, analyzing data from internal systems, writing investigation reports, and recommending next steps based on findings.
- Coach and advise leaders on complex team member relations issues, including performance management, while helping them manage business and company risk.
- Support proactive programs that help prevent workplace issues and concerns before they escalate.
- Partner with Legal and People Business Partners to review and assess team member relations cases, add context, and support consistent decisions.
- Help develop, apply, and revise policies as GitLab scales, and review policies, procedures, and initiatives for alignment with applicable requirements and GitLab's values.
- Analyze case trends and share insights with Legal, People Business Partners, and leaders to inform programs, policies, and risk-reduction strategies.
- Contribute to Team Member Relations and organization-wide initiatives in partnership with cross-functional stakeholders.
- Support the global governance of team member relations policies and practices by interpreting employment laws and regulations and providing guidance across jurisdictions.
What You’ll Bring
- Progressive employee or team member relations experience, including leading complex, multi-party workplace investigations and working with appropriate support on the most sensitive matters.
- Working knowledge of United States employment law relevant to team member relations, including the Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission processes. Experience with employment regulations in other regions is a plus.
- Experience working in a distributed, multi-jurisdiction, or global organization and adapting guidance to different regulatory and cultural contexts.
- Ability to influence change without direct authority and build support for programs and policy changes across functions.
- Clear written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to write well-supported investigation reports.
- Sound judgment, confidentiality, discretion, and empathy when handling sensitive, complex, and time-sensitive matters or facilitating conflict resolution.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, business judgment, attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work at a relatively quick pace.
- A Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional, Professional in Human Resources, or equivalent certification is preferred but not required.
About the team
The Team Member Relations team helps GitLab address workplace matters consistently, fairly, and in line with applicable requirements and GitLab's values. The team partners closely with Legal, People Business Partners, and leaders across regions to manage sensitive cases, identify trends, improve policies and programs, and support a positive team member experience in GitLab's all-remote organization.
