The Integrated Workflows team at Mural aims to embed Mural seamlessly into essential business workflows used by customers. They connect Mural to systems like tracking tools, conversation platforms, and content surfaces, transforming a canvas from a meeting snapshot into a live operational surface.

Your Mission

As a Senior Software Engineer on this team, you will design and build integrations that are reliable, secure, and widely used. You will turn one-off connector work into reusable integration platform capabilities that other teams can leverage.

This role blends product and platform responsibilities. You will work with third-party APIs and SDKs, managing complexities like shifting contracts, rate limits, authentication models, and partner review processes. Simultaneously, you will maintain clean abstractions and a stable public API for developers who rely on it.

Senior Engineers at Mural lead complex projects, contribute to company-wide processes, and mentor junior colleagues.

What You'll Do

  • Build and maintain two-way sync with systems of record (Jira, Linear, Asana, and others) to ensure decisions made on the canvas stay tracked and synchronized.

  • Design, build, and maintain integrations across the Microsoft ecosystem (Teams, Outlook, Office), video conferencing platforms, and third-party notification targets like Slack and Teams.

  • Develop and evolve the integration platform, including shared frameworks, services, and patterns for other Mural teams.

  • Own content pathways in and out of Mural, including import/export panels, third-party image APIs (Unsplash), copy/paste functionality, file upload handling, iFrame embedding, self-serve PDF to Mural conversion, and Mural exports/downloads.

  • Collaborate across teams on shared boundaries, ensuring contracts are upheld for render exports, the notification engine, and company-level migrations.

  • Maintain and support the public API for existing third-party developers, ensuring backward compatibility.

  • Lead projects end-to-end, from research, design, and proof-of-concept through execution, release, and iteration.

  • Build flexible, maintainable solutions while ensuring quality, performance, reliability, and security for all system crossings.

  • Utilize AI tools as part of your workflow.

  • Design, plan, and implement automated testing and documentation strategies, including failure mode testing for third-party API misbehavior.

  • Elevate team skills through technical designs, talks, code reviews, and mentorship.

  • Contribute to improving team processes and best practices.

What You'll Bring

  • Fluency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and experience with React, Node.js, or other modern frameworks.

  • Hands-on experience integrating with third-party APIs and platforms, including OAuth, token lifecycle management, webhooks, rate limiting, backoff, pagination, versioning, and graceful degradation for upstream failures.

  • 5+ years of experience building and shipping large-scale production software in an agile engineering team.

  • Strong track record in designing and delivering scalable, high-performance systems.

  • Outcome-oriented mindset with an interest in AI-driven development practices.

  • Proven experience planning technical projects and delivering new systems iteratively, focusing on quick customer value delivery.

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to lead technical discussions and navigate trade-offs.

  • Experience in high-growth, fast-paced environments or startups is a plus.

  • Experience with Microsoft Teams or Office add-in SDKs, or shipping through a partner marketplace/app review process.

  • Experience designing and maintaining a public developer API.

  • Experience with Python.

  • Familiarity with secure file handling at scale, including permissions checks, malware scanning, and content validation on upload.

  • Experience with content migration or format conversion between products, addressing fidelity issues.
