You will be responsible for executing thorough manual testing of web applications to ensure they meet functional requirements and real-world user needs. You will support complex testing efforts, collaborate across multiple project scrum teams, and may lead small- to mid-scale QA efforts with some guidance from senior staff.

What you'll do

  • Lead or support planning, analysis, and execution of QA activities across the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
  • Ensure that teams' work has clear acceptance criteria, developed/agreed on between members of the scrum teams.
  • Write, execute, and maintain manual test cases based on user stories, functional specs, and acceptance criteria.
  • Execute or interpret regression, performance, and validation testing; track and report defects.
  • Validate integrations with backend systems (e.g., eligibility engines, document uploads).
  • Perform accessibility testing and ensure compliance with relevant policies.
  • Collaborate with product managers, project managers, designers, developers, and test automation engineers to maintain high-quality service delivery.
  • Log detailed, actionable bug reports with reproduction steps, screenshots, and expected vs. actual results.

Required skills

  • 10+ years of experience conducting manual testing of software products
  • Understanding of QA methodologies including manual, automated, integration, and performance testing
  • Strong analytical skills in problem solving, test planning, and risk evaluation
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Ability to work independently, multitask, and adjust to changing project needs
  • Strong documentation and test planning abilities
  • High level of attention to detail

Desired skills

  • Experience testing mobile-friendly interfaces
  • Experience with public sector systems and federal/state benefit programs
  • Experience with performance testing tools (e.g., LoadRunner) or open-source equivalents
  • Leadership and mentoring experience in QA teams
  • Understanding of system architecture, integration points, and business process modeling
  • Understanding of Agile development processes

Nava PBC is a pioneering civic tech consultancy and Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) fiercely dedicated to radically improving how the government serves its people. Founded in 2015 by the elite team of engineers and designers who famously rescued HealthCare.gov from its disastrous launch, the company is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Under the hood, Nava fundamentally transforms massive, deeply fragile legacy government IT infrastructures into modern, resilient, and highly scalable digital services. They partner actively with federal, state, and local agencies to architect high-stakes, life-changing systems covering Medicare, unemployment benefits, and veteran services. Their primary target audience spans progressive government agencies and public sector leaders who urgently need to bridge the massive gap between archaic bureaucratic workflows and modern, agile software development. What sets Nava apart in the multi-billion dollar GovTech contracting landscape is its uncompromising, mission-driven ethos—operating strictly as a public benefit corporation, they prioritize long-term social impact, equity, and extreme accessibility over purely extractive profit margins, proving that public sector technology can actually be fast, reliable, and deeply empathetic.
