Want to know if you're a match for this job?
At Oceans, we are looking for a highly experienced, hands-on Senior Marketing Strategist to help build the marketing function from the ground up for a fast-growing AI security startup. This is a true player-coach role requiring someone who can operate strategically while remaining deeply hands-on. You will assess the company's current marketing position, identify critical gaps, determine what needs to be built, craft the strategy, and personally execute against it.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in marketing complex technology products to the U.S. market and can independently develop the positioning, messaging, channels, programs, and processes needed to increase brand awareness and generate qualified sales opportunities. This role is built for a self-directed marketing builder who thrives in early-stage environments without an established playbook or a team to delegate to.
Here’s how you’ll make an impact:
Marketing Strategy & Growth Foundation
- Develop and execute a comprehensive, repeatable marketing strategy aligned with company growth and revenue objectives.
- Assess the current marketing function to identify missing programs, processes, channels, and infrastructure, prioritizing high-value opportunities over pre-determined task lists.
- Balance strategic planning with direct execution to build a scalable foundation capable of supporting future growth.
- Establish a repeatable marketing operating cadence and align all growth initiatives with sales pipeline targets.
Positioning, Messaging & Brand Architecture
- Own strategic positioning and messaging for complex AI and cybersecurity products, translating technical capabilities into clear enterprise value propositions for the U.S. market.
- Ensure marketing communicates deep technical capabilities in commercially relevant language that addresses enterprise customer pain points.
- Maintain complete messaging consistency across the website, content, email campaigns, sales collateral, and other customer touchpoints.
- Serve as the strategic authority on product market presentation and buyer communication.
Content & Organic Acquisition
- Develop and manage inbound and content marketing strategies from scratch, aligned with pipeline objectives and demand generation goals.
- Determine appropriate content themes, formats, and distribution channels to increase qualified website traffic and engagement.
- Create, write, and guide content initiatives to establish thought leadership and organic visibility.
- Build sustainable organic growth programs rather than simply executing against a basic content calendar.
Lifecycle, Email & Outbound Marketing
- Build and manage the company’s email marketing architecture, lead-nurturing initiatives, and newsletters from the ground up.
- Develop targeted outbound marketing initiatives to connect campaigns directly to sales pipeline needs.
- Continuously refine lifecycle programs based on engagement data and commercial outcomes.
Website & Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO)
- Evaluate the existing website for messaging, positioning, and funnel-entry friction points.
- Recommend and implement CRO improvements that elevate messaging alignment and optimize conversion paths from prospect awareness to sales opportunities.
Analytics, Marketing Operations & Sales Alignment
- Establish marketing KPIs, measurement frameworks, and performance dashboards to evaluate channel effectiveness.
- Translate funnel performance data into strategic recommendations, using metrics to determine what to scale, test, or discontinue.
- Establish marketing operating practices, systems, and processes as the function matures.
- Partner closely with Sales and leadership to align marketing deliverables with pipeline requirements.
You will work directly with the Hiring Manager / Search Lead and company Founders, while partnering closely with Sales, technical product teams, and cross-functional leadership to align marketing strategies with commercial goals.
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Experience: Mid-to-senior marketing experience with proven ownership in building marketing functions or major programs from scratch within early-stage, fast-paced startup environments.
- Domain Expertise: Demonstrated experience marketing complex B2B technology products (such as AI, cybersecurity, SaaS, or frontier technology) to the U.S. enterprise market.
- Core Competencies: Hands-on mastery across content creation, organic acquisition, email/outbound marketing, lead generation, website positioning, and CRO.
- Analytics & Systems: Strong analytical judgment with proven ability to build KPI frameworks, evaluate funnel performance, and make data-driven decisions.
- Mindset: A genuine player-coach mentality with high autonomy, comfortable navigating ambiguity, solving unstructured problems, and executing without delegated teams.
- Professional fluency in English with exceptional written and verbal communication skills, especially in simplifying technical topics for business buyers.
