Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer

About The Role: This position is with the Data Performance and Tooling Team at Jane, led by Cheng, who oversees the foundational infrastructure powering data across the company. The team builds pipelines, data availability, analytics, and reporting infrastructure—critical systems relied upon by other teams. With six years at Jane, Cheng has witnessed the company grow from a startup to a high-growth SaaS organization, transitioning from foundational system-building to strategic data governance and company-wide data enablement.

The role focuses on unblocking two major projects and strategically shaping Jane’s data infrastructure. Responsibilities include owning end-to-end data infrastructure work, collaborating with analytics, product, and platform teams, and ensuring data-driven decision-making as Jane scales.

What Impact We're Looking For You To Make:

• Deploy production-grade data infrastructure that scales with Jane’s growth, balancing innovation with operational stability and clear trade-offs between speed and reliability.
• Contribute to the architecture, implementation, and maintenance of a secure, centralized data lake.
• Design and build high-performance streaming applications.
• Help design and implement best-in-class security controls for Jane’s data lake.
• Own the full lifecycle of infrastructure projects, including documentation, operational runbooks, and knowledge transfer to engineers and teams.
• Partner cross-functionally to translate analytics and product team needs into technical requirements and iterate based on real-world usage.
• Leverage AI tools to accelerate infrastructure work, such as documentation, research, and boilerplate creation, freeing time for strategic technical thinking.

What Experience We Need:

• 5+ years of experience with production data infrastructure, including deployment and maintenance in a SaaS or data-heavy environment.
• Strong SQL and data warehouse fundamentals, including ETL/ELT patterns, schema design, query optimization, and performance troubleshooting.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services and infrastructure-as-code tools, including Amazon MSK, AWS Glue, and Terraform.
• Experience with modern data lake and data warehouse technologies, particularly Apache Iceberg and Snowflake.
• Experience implementing database replication and change data capture pipelines using technologies like Kafka, Debezium, Flink, or Spark.
• A track record of owning infrastructure end-to-end, including design, deployment, operation, and iteration based on team feedback.
• Comfort communicating technical decisions to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders.
• Nice to have: Experience with Ruby on Rails monolithic applications.
