Senior Data Engineer (Snowflake, dbt, Python) – Freelance

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• Building and maintaining Snowflake data warehouses in production environments.
• Designing and optimizing SQL queries and data warehouse models (e.g., star schema, slowly changing dimensions).
• Developing and maintaining dbt models or similar data transformation tools.
• Ensuring data quality, validation, and troubleshooting across the entire data pipeline.
• Writing Python scripts for data profiling and automation.
• Implementing Git and CI/CD pipelines for data engineering tasks.
• Working in partially documented environments to identify and resolve data issues independently.
• Collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

Requirements

Must-have:

• 3+ years of hands-on Snowflake experience in production.
• Proficient SQL and data warehouse modeling skills (e.g., star schema, SCD, data grain, dimensions).
• Experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools.
• Strong understanding of data quality, validation, and troubleshooting across the full data flow.
• Python for data profiling and scripting.
• Experience with Git and CI/CD for data pipelines.
• Ability to work in a partially documented, inherited environment and independently identify and solve data issues.
• Strong communication skills and fluent English (C1).

Nice to have:

• Experience with a semantic layer (e.g., AtScale, Cube, dbt Semantic Layer, LookML, Power BI/SSAS).
• Experience with Qlik, Tableau, or Power BI.
• Knowledge of the Azure ecosystem.
• Experience with legacy BI modernisation.
• German language skills.
