Position Overview
We are seeking a highly sophisticated, mathematically minded Senior Applied Scientist to join our core global Inventory and EAM (Enterprise Asset Management) division in a full-time remote capacity within Canada. In this high-trust, high-ownership technical leadership seat, you will be the absolute creator and architect of the intelligence layers powering our strategic Parts Agent platform bet. Moving far beyond boilerplate algorithmic templates or static dashboards, you will model multi-layered relational structures spanning PartMaster registries, StockRecords, and PhysicalInstances to automate answers to complex industrial supply chain queries. This position demands a seasoned backend developer and data scientist who brings hands-on production engineering depth in Python, excels at operations research optimizations, and seamlessly integrates large language model (LLM) tool-calling behaviors with grounded, explainable runtime services.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Optimization Modeling: Design, develop, and evolve the core optimization routines and machine learning architectures powering the Parts Agent, natively managing reorder point prediction maps and multi-site stock balancing loops.
- Advanced Supply Chain Intelligence: Build and scale increasingly sophisticated systems covering supplier lead time modeling, criticality-weighted safety stock calculations, and complex substitution graph traversals.
- GenAI Tool Calling Instrumentation: Architect and maintain production-grade API endpoints that expose operational data models to GenAI workflows, enabling autonomous agent systems to execute constrained, structured inputs/outputs.
- Python Service Engineering: Own, profile, and refactor the backend inventory intelligence runtime services natively utilizing Python scripting, prioritizing async capabilities, high-throughput memory optimizations, and service observability.
- Cross-Functional Problem Translation: Partner tightly beside internal Product Managers, UI/UX designers, and industrial stakeholders to translate messy, real-world maintenance parameters into clean mathematical frameworks.
- User-Informed Model Iteration: Collaborate closely with frontline parts managers and procurement teams through pilot deployments, turning empirical operator insights into continuous model enhancements.
- Historical Learning Optimization: Leverage historical enterprise purchasing catalogs and asset consumption logs to continually train and refine model priors, vendor constraint weights, and demand forecasting precision.
- Engineering Hygiene Advocacy: Support internal product stability by writing robust automated unit/integration test suites and establishing strict benchmarking rules across localized data layers.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 5+ years of verified professional history running advanced data science architectures, mathematical optimization programming, predictive demand forecasting, or backend microservices development.
- Deep, authoritative technical fluency with at least one optimization paradigm (such as Linear Programming (LP/MILP), stochastic programming, or discrete event simulation physics).
- Expert-tier backend engineering background in the Python language, highlighting absolute comfort managing asynchronous routing, runtime profiling, and live infrastructure tracking tools.
- Solid academic grounding in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Logistics, Mathematical Statistics, or a closely related quantitative field of study (strong undergraduate foundation at minimum).
- Proven real-world track record of deploying data-driven machine learning models to production and iteratively refining them based on qualitative human user feedback.
- Demonstrated experience configuring and aligning next-generation GenAI developer interfaces, specifically handling LLM tool calling, function schemas, and prompt design maps.
- Location Context: Full-time flexible parameters open exclusively to qualified applied science and software engineering leads permanently based anywhere within Canada.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Prior experience shipping scalable inventory management platforms, procurement software, or logistics routing engines for a recognized high-growth software company.
- Domain-specific experience operating natively in MRO (Maintenance, Repair & Operations) systems, factory spare parts logistics, or heavy manufacturing enterprise networks.
- Proven background acting in a Technical Lead capacity, or a clear personal interest in growing into an engineering squad lead on this team.
- Familiarity with containerized microservices deployment pipelines or multi-tenant cloud storage configurations.
What We Offer
- The exceptional professional canvas to directly direct, code, and define the intelligent agent architectures optimizing critical supply logistics for thousands of industrial organizations worldwide.
- Highly competitive base salary structures supplemented by meaningful corporate equity opportunities and transparent, meritocratic career velocity tracking.
- Profound work-from-home remote parameters offering access to a highly autonomous, global workforce that explicitly celebrates joint efforts publicly.
- Comprehensive health care provisions, encompassing top-tier medical, dental, and vision protection coverages.
- Immediate eligibility to enroll in local retirement optimization programs, including corporate 401(k) / RRSP matching frameworks.
- A flexible "take what you need" paid time off (PTO) allocation model to preserve healthy personal work-life alignment and continuous mental wellness.
