THE OPPORTUNITY
Unknown Worlds is seeking a talented Senior Animator to work on Subnautica 2. Our ideal candidate will be self-motivated, with a passion for game creation, animation, and creating engaging experiences. They will have experience collaborating closely with art, design, and engineering to create, build, and polish responsive and expressive characters, creatures, and animated gameplay assets.
This is a full-time remote position on a globally distributed team.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Create animations that meet the aesthetic and technical requirements of the project. As a Senior Animator, you will be expected to set a high visual bar for the team and consistently push for elevated quality.
- Work with the animation lead and Technical Art to ensure we have the tools, technology, and implementation support needed to deliver animation efficiently and effectively.
- Collaborate with design and narrative to ensure our characters and other animated assets feel responsive and expressive.
- Self-manage your timeboxes and production workload to ensure milestone goals are met with a consistently high quality of work.
- Work with the team to improve animation processes, workflows, and pipelines. Challenge yourself and your team to generate more responsive and expressive assets.
- Respond to feedback appropriately, iterate on assets as needed, and help evaluate team work and provide feedback when asked.
- Be knowledgeable in keyframe and motion capture techniques and processes.
- Develop expert-level knowledge of the game engine’s animation tools.
- Stay current with industry animation trends and techniques, set personal goals, and continually improve your craft.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years’ experience as an Animator, with a minimum of one shipped Unreal Engine title in an Animation role.
- Proficiency working directly in Unreal Engine.
- Experience with Blender and other related animation software.
- Extensive knowledge of animation pipelines; strong documentation and debugging skills; able to troubleshoot and diagnose animation issues.
- Self-starting, organized, highly collaborative, motivated, and comfortable working in a remote environment.
- Able to mentor more junior team members and set a high standard in aesthetics and approach.
- Excellent written, visual, and verbal communication skills.
- Strong understanding of art fundamentals, and able to demonstrate strong aesthetic judgment.
- Curious and willing to take risks and learn from failure.
PREFERENCES:
- Advanced Blender experience.
- Creature or non-bipedal animation experience.
- First-person animation experience.
