Senior Accountant

About the Role

Caribou is looking for a high-integrity, operational Senior Accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. Reporting directly to the Senior Manager, Accounting, you will serve as a foundational anchor on the Accounting team, taking direct ownership of day-to-day GL activity, while helping us build scalable accounting systems and business processes to support Caribou’s next phase of growth while hyper-focused on the precision of our accounting records.

• Ensure strict adherence to GAAP and best-in-class accounting policies and procedures.
• Oversee high-volume daily refinance loan transactions and own daily bank reconciliations.
• Own end-to-end Property, Plant, and Equipment (PPE) analysis, capitalization journal entries, and schedule reconciliations.
• Lead accounting onboarding for new lenders, ensuring systems, approval routing, and operational requirements are fully met before launch.
• Drive key month-end close workflows including preparing complex journal entries and accruals in accordance with pre-established deadlines.
• Perform monthly balance sheet account and revenue reconciliations ensuring clean tie-outs to the general ledger.
• Support monthly financial reporting deliverables, variance analysis, and period-over-period flux reviews against prior periods and budget.
• Continuously audit close procedures to eliminate bottlenecks, automate manual tasks, and accelerate reporting timelines.
• Collaborate with the broader Accounting team to establish, document, and enforce GAAP-compliant business processes and internal controls.
• Lead cross-departmental efficiency projects, handle audit queries, and support ad hoc financial analyses as needed.

Location

Candidates are welcome to work remotely from the states of AZ, CO, DC, IL, MD, TX, and VA with a preference for the Chicago IL, Denver CO, or Phoenix AZ areas. Caribou does provide the option to work in-office or hybrid from our Denver, CO or Chandler, AZ offices. We may consider remote candidates in CA, FL, MA, NY, OR, WA, and WI, subject to additional approval. Eligibility by state is subject to change.

This role may require attendance at occasional in-person team meetings.

About You

• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, CPA strongly preferred.
• 3-6 years experience in progressive accounting roles with a preference for public accounting and/or large corporate/fintech experience.
• Experience with modern accounting software required, with a preference for experience with NetSuite.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge with an understanding of US GAAP and the ability to document accounting conclusions.
• Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and effectively present complex information to both finance and non-finance partners.
• Advanced Excel capabilities with proven ability to manipulate and analyze large, complex datasets.
• Flexibility to quickly adapt when other high-priority needs cause priorities to change.
