About the Role

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Account Director to join Ashfield MedComms. This role involves providing strategic and operational leadership across high-profile publications and medical affairs accounts, acting as a trusted partner to senior stakeholders and leading Client Services teams to deliver exceptional work.

Key responsibilities include overseeing complex, multi-stakeholder programs spanning global publications and broader medical affairs initiatives, ensuring scientific rigor, operational excellence, and strong financial performance. The role also involves developing teams, growing partnerships, and supporting new business opportunities.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership across multiple publications and medical affairs accounts, ensuring high-quality, compliant delivery.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders, providing strategic counsel and proactive solutions to complex challenges.
  • Oversee publication programs, including abstracts, posters, manuscripts, congress activities, and related deliverables, alongside broader medical affairs initiatives.
  • Partner closely with Scientific Services and cross-functional teams to develop and deliver strategic medical communications plans aligned with client objectives.
  • Champion operational best practices, identifying opportunities to strengthen delivery, improve efficiencies, and support organic account growth.
  • Own account financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, reconciliation, invoicing, and SOW development.
  • Lead and develop multiple Client Services team members.
  • Lead and support business development activities, including proposals, RFPs/RFIs, presentations, budgets, and onboarding of new business.
  • Partner with senior Client Services leadership on resourcing, team development, training, and new service offerings.
  • Ensure teams maintain strong cross-functional partnerships and effectively manage risks, priorities, timelines, and stakeholder expectations.

About You

  • A Bachelor’s degree in life sciences or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
  • Extensive medical communications agency experience, with strong expertise across publications and medical affairs.
  • Demonstrated success leading multiple complex client accounts and providing strategic counsel to senior stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of publication planning and delivery, medical affairs communications, industry standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven experience leading and developing Client Services teams, including managing managers and/or multiple direct reports.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, profitability, SOW development, and account growth.
  • Experience leading or contributing to new business development, including proposals, pitches, and RFP/RFI responses.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills with a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
  • Experience with platforms such as iEnvision, Veeva, or similar systems.

At Ashfield, compensation includes a $130,000–$160,000 USD base salary range, a comprehensive bonus plan, and benefits such as medical, dental, and vision coverage, a generous 401k match, vacation, sick and personal days, and additional benefits for new parents.
