The Role

Hone is looking for a Quality Engineer II to join our Engineering team. This is an early-career role for someone who has a year or two of testing under their belt and is ready to own the quality of their own features. You will report to the Director of QA and work alongside senior quality and software engineers who will help you keep growing.

At Hone, there is one Quality Engineer track. You will both test and automate, and you will use AI to do both faster. You will handle small features and bugs with little supervision, deliver scoped work on time, and build the judgment that carries you toward Quality Engineer III and beyond. This is not a manual-only or a script-running role - it is a real engineering career on a clear path.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Write and maintain test cases for your own features with little guidance, covering the happy path and the obvious edge cases, and raise risks when you spot them
  • Own testing for the small features and bugs assigned to you, delivering scoped work on time without much hand-holding
  • Write reliable automated tests for your features on your own (end-to-end tests in Playwright and API-level tests) following the team’s conventions
  • Chase down flaky tests and keep your part of the suite stable, asking for help when you need it
  • Run exploratory checks and write clear, reproducible bug reports that anyone on the team can act on
  • Work with AI tools day to day to draft cases, automation, and selectors - and spot and fix output that is wrong or unsafe, following the team’s AI conventions
  • Apply patient-data guardrails consistently: keep test data synthetic and never put real patient data in test cases, bug reports, or any other test artifact
  • Give short, useful code and test reviews, talk through the direction of your own work, and give teammates helpful feedback

Qualifications

  • Roughly 1-2 years of experience in software quality, testing, or test automation
  • Working programming or scripting ability in at least one language (TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or C#)
  • Comfortable writing automated tests and maintaining them, ideally with Playwright or comparable UI and API testing frameworks
  • Comfortable with version control (Git), running a test suite, and basic debugging on your own
  • Works with AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Codex, or similar) as part of a daily workflow, and reviews their output rather than trusting it blindly
  • Dependable communication: clear bug reports, useful reviews, and the habit of talking through your own work
  • A track record of finishing scoped work on time with little supervision
  • A genuine interest in healthcare and in protecting the patients who rely on our platform

We do not expect you to meet every line above. If you are an early-career quality engineer and most of this resonates, please apply.
