Job Description
Key Skills Required
Master these to land this role
Want to know if you're a match for this job?
Your mission:
keep deepening Planner, the live working plan that the site teams on major construction projects rely on every day, and help extend it as Aphex grows.
The opportunity:
Planner is where the site team's plan, coordination, and daily routine all live in one place. Lookaheads. Weekly work plans. Resource and spatial planning. Daily coordination. Briefings. The constant back-and-forth between plan and reality. The decisions made in Planner shape what actually gets built: billion-dollar bridges, city-spanning tunnels, country-powering wind farms, on time or not. When we make Planner better, the work of running a major project gets a little less painful for the people doing it.
It's the most iterated and mature part of Aphex, and the foundation the rest of the product is being built around. There's huge ground left to cover, both in going deeper into what already works and in extending it into the adjacent territory the wider product is moving into.
We're on the lookout for a second Product Manager to join our Planner team, partly because there's a lot we want to build and not enough of us to build it, and partly because the team is at the point where having more than one product person on it just makes sense.
You'd take on major Planner initiatives, something the team is working on for a quarter or longer, and own the delivery of all features inside it end-to-end, from discovery through to QA to launch.
Deep construction industry experience runs through Aphex, and product decisions have benefited from that since the start. Bringing that together with more traditional product practice is something we're actively shaping, and this role will be part of how it comes together. The way the team operates will continue to develop, and you'd help shape it.
What You’ll Do
You'll work with the Product Leader for Planner, alongside developers, designers & one other PM to keep building Planner into the platform major projects rely on to plan, coordinate, and run their work.
Own Feature Delivery
- Coordinate end-to-end: discovery through QA to launch
- Write clear specs that designers and developers can execute against
- Make daily tradeoff decisions: scope, timeline, quality
- Spot blockers early, and clear them before they hold the team up
- Define "done" and hold the quality bar
Understand the user reality
- Work with CX, CS, AMs and customers directly to understand how teams are using Planner today, where it's working, and where it isn't, and stay close to the feature requests, bugs, and data that signals what users need
- Get specific about what users need the initiative to do for them - the outcomes and gaps that the work has to address
- Translate what you learn into buildable features and clear specs
- Test direction with real users and workflows before committing
- Track adoption: is what you shipped landing the way it should?
Coordinate Across Functions
- Partner with designers to scope and refine features as you go, and run the daily and regular rhythms that keep work moving across design and engineering
- Work with the team's staff engineers on technical approach, PoCs and what's feasible
- Bring in CX, CS, Sales, and Marketing on what's coming and what's just shipped - different teams need different things at different points, and the company needs to understand what's been built and how
- Manage the dependencies your work touches, and unblock the team when something's stuck
- Bring experimentation into how the work actually gets done - discovery, specs, testing, coordination, documentation. There's plenty of room to explore what makes the team faster and the work better!
Hold the quality bar
- Work with the QA lead and the team's staff engineers to make sure features actually work - running cases manually where it matters, and partnering with QA to build the automated coverage that catches what comes next
- Triage bugs alongside CX as they come in, and feed what you learn back into how the team builds
- Make the ship-or-hold call on what you own, balancing pace with getting it right
You could be a great fit for this role if
- You've got 2+ years of product management experience under your belt, ideally in B2B SaaS
- You've shipped features end-to-end - discovery through to launch - and you know what good looks like because you've worked alongside people doing it well
- You've got strong product instincts and you're not shy about having a view on what's working, what isn't, and what good looks like
- You love getting deep into how a complex product works, and don't want to skate the surface
- You can write clear specs, make daily tradeoff calls, and hold the quality bar without needing to be chased
- You bring a solid grounding in standard product practice but you're not dogmatic about it - you're curious about what to keep & what to adapt
- You're up for experimenting with how we build (AI-led or otherwise!!) and you're the kind of person who brings others along with you
Bonus points if you've got experience in construction tech, industrial software, or productivity tools - especially anything Gantt, scheduling, or task-based planning.
You'll need to be based in Australia or New Zealand.
