Premier Resident Engineer (PRE) - Cincinnati, OH

The Extreme Premier Resident Engineer (PRE) will work within a customer team of highly skilled and experienced engineers to support a full-time resident engineer position in the Cincinnati, OH area. The PRE role requires a broad range of technical, troubleshooting, and planning skills, and excellent customer communication skills. The PRE is considered a 'trusted advisor' for the customer during the engagement. The PRE's role is to provide a high-quality implementation of all areas of the Extreme Network product suites, ensuring that all networking implementations meet the customer's functional requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide full-time project support for a large Enterprise Healthcare Extreme customer in the Cincinnati, OH area.
• Follow Extreme Premier Services PDIO (Plan/Design/Implement/Operate) implementation methodology, including:
• Planning high-level architecture diagrams, functional capabilities, customer prerequisites, configurations, and tracking deliverable dates and timelines for a production implementation.
• Defining UAT and functional validation criteria within a Method of Procedure (MOP) document.
• Responsible for creation and maintenance of project documentation during implementation and ongoing deliverables.
• Act as a technical lead and trusted advisor to the customer during implementation phases and as an ongoing team member.
• Serve as a liaison between sales, PLM, Engineering, GTAC (as required), and the customer during all phases of implementation and production phases of the network.
• Collaborate with Extreme partners and sales staff to implement Extreme solutions and provide knowledge transfer as required for the defined solution.
• Must maintain excellent knowledge of all Extreme product suites, including:
• Extreme Cloud IQ Site-Engine (XIQ-SE) – Manage, Control, Analytics
• Extreme Cloud IQ (XIQ) Wireless
• EXOS (ERS series) switching OS
• Extreme VOSS switching OS and Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) Fabric
• Possess situational awareness and the ability to proactively escalate any customer issues to the PSM, GTAC, Account Team, and Management in a timely and cohesive manner.

Requirements

• Expertise in networking technologies with 5 or more years' experience and industry/regional knowledge.
• Thorough knowledge and proven experience with implementation and maintenance of the Extreme Campus Fabric solution.
• Thorough knowledge and proven experience with implementation and maintenance of EXOS (ERS series) switching OS.
• Thorough knowledge and proven experience with implementation and maintenance of Extreme Cloud IQ Site Engine (XIQ-SE), Extreme Control (NAC), and Extreme Analytics platforms.
• Thorough knowledge of implementation and troubleshooting of VOSS switching and SPB fabric networks.
• Thorough knowledge and proven experience with implementation and maintenance of Extreme Wireless solutions using XIQ (hive OS) related APs.
• Understanding of LDAP, RADIUS, and Active Directory Services used for AAA within NAC solutions.
• Hands-on experience using security-related toolsets.
• Strong skills in troubleshooting and problem resolution in a network environment, including use of PCAP, Wireshark, and wireless RF Analysis tools (Ekahau preferred).
• Ability to understand and analyze customer requirements and position the Extreme solution effectively.
• Ability to implement Extreme products and solutions in a mission-critical environment within scheduled downtime or with no downtime.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex customer interactions in difficult circumstances and control customer expectations to maintain satisfied customers, including:
• Use of Project Plans, Design Diagrams, Procedure documentation, and managing coordination with other disciplines (Firewall and OS Teams) to ensure smooth implementations and full awareness of delivery timelines and capabilities.
• Excellent interpersonal, technical presentation, and communication skills.
• Proven team player.
• Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision.

Networking Technologies

In-depth knowledge of five or more of the following networking technologies (5 or more years of experience):

• Network Access Control (NAC)
• DNS
• DHCP
• Wireless
• IPv4/v6
• Routing Protocols (ISIS, OSPFv2/v3, VRRP, MPLS, BGP, etc.)
• Layer2 Switching (802.1Q, 802.1D, 802.1X)

Desired Skills / Experience

• Must be a US citizen.
• BS Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
• Industry Network Certifications desired.
• Automation/Python scripting experience.
