About Hook: Hook is the premier, internationally recognized social music platform pioneer, digital creator technology innovator, and venture-backed media ecosystem leader on an absolute mission to redefine modern music discovery, fan expression, and creator growth. By partnering directly with record labels, superstar artists, and global rightsholders, Hook securely transforms the songs people love into intuitive digital sounds they can play with. The platform enables everyday music fans and digital creators to safely reimagine, manipulate, and personalize popular music tracks through a remix-friendly mobile application featuring zero learning curve. Driven by a high-velocity, milestone-oriented tech philosophy under our core Artificial Intelligence group, Hook ensures that distributed musical transformations respect and reward the original creators behind them. The company provides tech-savvy musicians with an uncompromised remote canvas to build automation tools, enhance real-time signal processing, and scale the future of interactive music worldwide.
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly analytical, systems-minded Music Expressions Intern to join our core centralized Studio team in a full-time remote capacity. Sitting at the highly innovative intersection of professional music theory, digital signal processing (DSP), and software engineering, this unique operational seat reports directly to the Head of Studio Platform. Shifting completely away from routine catalog entry or passive administrative listening, you will claim true individual operational accountability for expanding our interactive sound library and improving the automation software that makes it scale. This internship requires a technology-focused developer pursuing or possessing a computing degree who writes mathematical audio code fluidly, maps complex acoustic traits smoothly into digital parameters, and translates abstract musical ideas into highly successful application remix filters.
Key Responsibilities
- Remix Filter Architecture Design: Partner directly with professional studio music producers to translate abstract acoustic configurations and artistic concepts into intuitive, app-ready user remix filters natively utilizing Audio Engineering principles.
- Automated Toolchain Scripting: Collaborate with the Music Expression Lead to write, test, and expand internally deployed software scripts and toolsets designed to automate the translation of musical parameters into code blocks natively leveraging Python.
- Studio Platform Quality Assurance: Lead comprehensive system testing and regression QA cycles across the Hook Studio framework, monitoring acoustic quality, latency metrics, and functional seamlessness.
- Acoustic Data Structuring: Analyze and map complex multi-layered acoustic profiles, interpreting raw properties of rhythm, micro-harmonic intervals, melodic structures, and timbral frequencies.
- Cross-Functional Language Translation: Act as an effective technical translator across divisions, utilizing strong verbal and visual communication traits to unpack abstract musical concepts for engineering cells and non-musician stakeholders.
- Digital Signal Processing Execution: Assist in the mathematical manipulation of digital audio waveforms, implementing simple filters, equalizer curves, and dynamic effects models inside local development directories.
- Open Source and SDK Maintenance: Maintain version control environments, logging code modules, packaging prompt behaviors, and updating local dependencies cleanly using Git repositories.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Current enrollment in or pursuit of a formal university degree (B.Tech, B.E, BSc, or equivalent) specializing in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Audio Technology, or a closely related quantitative computing discipline (the degree does not need to be completed).
- Hands-on programming proficiency compiling clean, readable scripts natively utilizing Python applied specifically within an explicit music, sound manipulation, or audio tool development environment.
- Deep, authoritative conceptual understanding of music theory fundamentals, showcasing a fluent grasp navigating rhythm grids, scales, harmonic progressions, melodic contours, and timbral variations.
- Foundational academic or practical familiarity with digital signal processing (DSP) concepts, including time-frequency domains, sample rates, and frequency filtering.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication traits in fluent English, enabling absolute confidence when articulating abstract acoustic properties to developers.
- Location Context: Position open to qualified engineering interns globally to execute duties under a 100% remote work-from-home layout.
Preferred Strategic Indicators (Nice to Have)
- Prior personal or commercial project history writing low-level, high-efficiency system code blocks explicitly using **Swift** (iOS audio frameworks) or **C++** (JUCE framework or digital audio workstation plugin structures).
- Familiarity with digital audio software environments (DAWs like Ableton Live, Logic Pro, or Pro Tools) or open-source audio processing libraries (such as Librosa, SciPy audio modules, or Aubio).
- An outcome-driven personal philosophy rooted in continuous learning, intense curiosity for both music and data science, and a passion for working with scaling startup teams.
What We Offer
- The exceptional professional canvas to directly direct, shape, and code-shape the automated remix tools and audio processing filters power-routing interactive music expression for millions of global application users.
- Highly competitive, capability-benchmarked full-time internship baseline financial stipends calibrated precisely to reward your software craft, audio intelligence, and execution velocity.
- Profound work-from-home remote parameters providing an elite digital workplace, complete scheduling trust, and zero physical geographic office commuting friction from any location worldwide.
- Direct, uncompromised exposure to an innovative social music ecosystem backed by top-tier venture capital investors and veteran media entrepreneurs.
- Continuous skill acceleration pathways under direct mentorship from elite senior audio engineers, learning production-scale microservices, iOS CoreAudio modules, and automated digital signal translation frameworks.
- A tight-knit, collaborative workspace alignment inside a studio team where music is not just consumed—it’s engineered, personalized, and made personal.
